This is some serious power. This will last like 5 years.

It depends, it won't run the top games at surround 4k at max setting with 144hz even now.

4k with 144Hz exist?

 

and anyway, you can do 4k at 60fps

 

980 sli is similar to 960 quad

960 can drive 1 1080p therefore two 980 can 4 1080p

so just lower AA and maybe to high instead of ultra and you can play any game

I had a choice of getting a 1440p asus display at $430 or a Acer 4k display at $450, I went with the 1440p just because of gaming.

 

I dont think 4k monitors are perfect for gaming yet, and honestly I'm loving my new display. Everything plays on Ultra even downsampled from 4k within Nvidia's control panel.

I had a choice of getting a 1440p asus display at $430 or a Acer 4k display at $450, I went with the 1440p just because of gaming.

 

I dont think 4k monitors are perfect for gaming yet, and honestly I'm loving my new display. Everything plays on Ultra even downsampled from 4k within Nvidia's control panel. 

if you got better panel then good choice. 4k at this price is crazy, its not even premium price anymore and totally worth it.

 

for gaming tho id go with ROG swift + nice IPS panel as secondary if i had the money :D and only dual 970s

960 can drive 1 1080p therefore two 980 can 4 1080p

so just lower AA and maybe to high instead of ultra and you can play any game

Not really, but technically you could overclock or jerry jig multiple 1080p monitors into 4k ones. 

 

That isn't how scaling works, four GPUs in sli will perform around 3x as a single one if the games scales well. It takes two or three 980s to run a 4k panel at around 60 fps at max settings on AAA games, so surround 4k with 144hz is basically impossible right now.
