My Scrapyard Wars $265 USD including monitor!

NOOB1990

So after watching the Scrapyard Wars series, it finally pushed me to building my first pc. I was on a really tight budget so this was the best solution and looked promising to me. I surfed Craigslist for a while before coming across a deal. It was complete pc with no OS or side panels. It was sporting a Intel Duo quad core Q6600 with a stock cooler, a gigabyte motherboard, 4gb (2x2gb) of Gskill 800 mgz DDR2 ram, a 1Tb hard drive, 2 dvd drives (non sata) and a ATI Radeon HD 4870 gpu for the low price of $135. post-137521-0-50172400-1425918899_thumb.post-137521-0-45005200-1425918900_thumb.post-137521-0-18001600-1425918902_thumb.post-137521-0-40580100-1425918903_thumb.post-137521-0-78181000-1425918904_thumb.

I also scored a 22in samsung monitor for $50post-137521-0-75811800-1425918905_thumb.

I ordered a Cooler Master AIO 120mm cooler for $50 on Newegg plus has a mail in rebate. And for the OS I went with Linux Mint for now.  I already had a new case that I picked up for $30 that included a usb keyboard and mouse and some cheap speakers. The case is horrible for cable management but here she is with everything installed.post-137521-0-27030300-1425918897_thumb.post-137521-0-55547600-1425918896_thumb.

That is really nice.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

So about 1/3rd of what your build cost went to the cooler, seems a bit ... odd.

The Q6600 is still a great performing chip imo, so you did very well on a tight budget.

I have a Q6600 Shuttle system that's been sat in my cupboard going to waste. I really should get it sold so someone can make use of it.

Just need to spend a dollar on some cable ties now to clean up those wires ;)

Only reason was didn't see the point in spend close to the same (after $20 rebate) for an air cooler.

HEY! lol My wife picked the paint and can't say I don't like it.

Hey, that's a great deal you got there! That Q6600 is still an excellent performer. There are some pretty straightforward mods you can do to greatly improve the aesthetic. I just used some black "Krylon BBQ and Stove" paint to paint my optical drive, IO shield, PSU and CPU / chipset heatsinks in my Scrapyard build and it looks a ton better. Helps the cables blend in to boot :P. I was a little concerned that the paint would affect temps, but it has been great. Dries in no time (<15 minutes) and doesn't require primer (just a wash / maybe a light sanding). Keep up the good work!

Thanks man. I might try that. I still have some high temp paint left over from painting some parts on my car. I'm going to do some more cable management and get a sata dvd so I can get rid of that awful IDE cable. I'm thinking about painting the inside of the case also.

you should overclock that C2Q Q6600. the p35 chipset on your board is pretty good for overclocking and you're cooler is good too.
