If it's a matter of wishing they had better stories to animate, because they do a pretty good job at it, I wouldn't think it shameful of the studio. It does suck that their work has been mostly adapting average or below-average writings. I think the fact that garbage like Lucky Star or K-ON! had/has such a huge fan base speaks volumes for the passion they put into their work.. even if it starts out as garbage. I even thought the Tamako Market movie was pretty decent. I'd say memorability is quite subjective, too. It'd be incredibly difficult for something to have the lasting impact that Disappearance has had on me. Maybe it's the same with the works of Makoto Shinkai for others.

 

Edit: Also, I went looking for fan art and didn't find much, but there was this..

So, if you know where I can read this, shoot me a PM or something. :ph34r:

Doubt any fan art is going to top what we got in the actual movie, but I don't mind a bit of it. More that feet, I like girls in office attire.. those slightly flared capris, gadamn.

Edit: Btw...Im just so pleased to have found this club. Even if I haven't been able to follow every week, its just awesome how many really great stuff I have seen, just because of the Heaven Society...This was one of the absolute up there with some of the best ones we have had so far in 37 weeks.

I just watched it and I am lost for words...

 

The animation was like watching a magic trick that uses romance. It's one of the very few anime that made me feel connected with the anime and the characters.

 

I usually don't like slow paced stuff but, this somehow felt different.

They were forcing to show as much environment as possible. And I can totally see why, but for me it was a little bit too much. Everything else was really good, I really liked characters, but 40 minutes weren't enough to get attached.

I might be grasping a bit, but I thought its brevity helped me connect with the characters better. We're strangers to the characters in the same way the characters were strangers to each other. With only ~40 minutes, they can't waste time over-characterizing or getting too detailed. We get a basic understanding of the situation where that comforting simplicity allows their relationship to grow.

Just finished the movie. That was most definitely a Makoto Shinkai styled work. 

 

Now if they would just make this into a movie....

 

I believe that was a spot made for the Japanese government to encourage High level university studies and crams.

"I watched an anime, the ending is sad." Then viewers will expect a sad ending and NOT CRY at all in the end when you are supposed to cry, its more about expectation and reaction.
