Heaven Society - Week 37 (Garden of Words)

Watched the first few minutes.I found I really didn't like it in any perspective at all.I was trying to be optimistic as I can...

Its nice to expirience something deeper that blood and gore.

I love this movie! Good eye candy and good story. =D

Wish I had a teacher like that 15 years ago

Finished it yesterday (this morning to be precise... 1am ^_^ ) and it is truly a masterpiece. Especially the effective use of symbolism and recurring motifs like the rain naturally weaved into the story.

I've actually never seen a movie/anime/TV show where everyone dies at the end. Some people? Loads. A lot of people? You betcha. Most people? Definitely. Everyone but the mc? A few. Absolutely everyone? Not a single one. Its weird.

Don't go and recommend any now, it'll ruin the surprise :P

Great story as well as beautiful artwork, glad I watched it again

giphy.gif

Dat rain <3

Blyat! It's a movie!

That's inappropiate =/

While "Blyat!"  is much like "Fuck!", you could say "Chyort!" (Чёрт!), which is similar to "Damn!"

And failing to act, for fear of the risk, is no different than a living death. No matter what world you’re in.

My bad I legitimately didn't know what it meant lol.

I just remember hearing the Russians yelling that out all the time in Battlefield.

Just finished the movie. That was most definitely a Makoto Shinkai styled work.

Now if they would just make this into a movie....

It's a ad made by Makoto Shinkai for a cram school hahaha.

So many westerners thought it was a movie trailer and were going insane with anticipation. We were disappointed... never going to that cram school since its on the other side of the god dam planet but my god that video has lots of rewatching qualities. That production quality man.... good lord.

Checked it out today, I wish I'd watched it a week ago when we were getting pleasant rains. I went in knowing it would be scenery porn, but I didn't expect the music and sounds of rain to be so good as well. The pieces were matched very well to the scenes, and I really enjoyed the insert song towards the end. A tad on the melodramatic and bittersweet side, but I didn't mind. Was better than I was expecting. Foot scene may be one of the best ASMR scenes I've seen. Nice/10, will buy on Blu-ray.

Well, Shinkai's certainly still got a knack for these sorts of films, doesn't he? I wonder what would happen if someone managed to coax him to do something like the upcoming Mushishi film. If only KyoAni could use their animation chops to come up with something this sincere...

It's not quite on the same level, but I guess it's close enough. And yet, a single guy has made high-quality short films in 2008, 2011, and 2013, while KyoAni have managed it once in 2010 - and if we're being really kind, maybe we can toss the animation spectacles of Hyouka and Nichijou on those lists. Kind of shameful that they release so much more, yet it amounts to so much less in terms of memorability.

He gets compared to Hayao Miyazaki.

I suppose.. but I only say what I do about KyoAni because they have the potential to be truly phenomenal too. They've just got to try a bit harder to tell timeless stories. Maybe that's not what they want to do or be, but it's way too sad for me to consider that possibility :)

I'm not sure what metric we're talking about anymore. What are we comparing? Animation quality? Memorability? CoMix Wave and KyoAni are different animals, though they both animate. I definitely don't want to crap on Kotonoha no Niwa, I really liked it. I just wouldn't drag KyoAni through the mud in comparison regarding not-animation-stuffs.

Well, I meant memorability/sincerity of storytelling (given the animation quality). But it's not worth dragging KyoAni through the mud, that wasn't my intent. Again, I just know they're capable of better than they've given us. Animation quality is only impressive for a few years; timelessness is much more precious. I want to see KyoAni come up with something timeless. Haruhi's ok, FMP was ok, etc... but aside from After Story it feels like they're not aiming as high as I wish they would once in a while.

If it's a matter of wishing they had better stories to animate, because they do a pretty good job at it, I wouldn't think it shameful of the studio. It does suck that their work has been mostly adapting average or below-average writings. I think the fact that garbage like Lucky Star or K-ON! had/has such a huge fan base speaks volumes for the passion they put into their work.. even if it starts out as garbage. I even thought the Tamako Market movie was pretty decent. I'd say memorability is quite subjective, too. It'd be incredibly difficult for something to have the lasting impact that Disappearance has had on me. Maybe it's the same with the works of Makoto Shinkai for others.

Edit: Also, I went looking for fan art and didn't find much, but there was this..

7e7d81cb9b.jpgSo, if you know where I can read this, shoot me a PM or something.

Well that's just it - if they can get such huge followings just for mediocre stories, imagine what we could have had if they had animated something genuinely awesome? Shinkai at least feels like he puts his 100% behind everything he does down to the last detail, but with KyoAni it often feels to me like (aside from the animation) they just don't care... they will have a fanbase no matter what they crap out. That's where the "shameful" aspect comes from to me... for being capable of better, but choosing to coast instead.
