just don't drop in an high-end GPU and you'll keep loving it...once you do that and you realise your FPS are not what they should be and you start monitoring your GPU loads you'll want to slash it with a hammer.

Don't have the money to! Had a GTX 650Ti BOOST SC in it, and was having instability issues with my platform, tossed in an HD 6950, and BAM! It works fine. (Still trying to troubleshoot that GTX not working... has issues in other systems too, so likely going to RMA it) Anyways, I'm happy with the 30fps I get in Far Cry 3 at max settings, and 25 in Skyrim at max. It's still playable, so I'm fine with it. I consider myself more of a hobbyist gamer, not an enthusiast or professional gamer by any means. If it play and it doesn't run less than 20fps, I'm fine with it.

you are lucky...i can't tolerate anything less than 60FPS and it has to be a smooth 60FPS with very tight frametime variances i see every stutter and slow downs...for your rig if you want to upgrade you could go as high as a R9 280 or GTX 960 before you notice any severe bottlenecking from your CPU...that is saying that the FX is capable of feeding a GPU to around 45 to 55FPS in most titles...smootly...more GPU horsepower and you start running into all kind of issues with frame time all over the place and random framedrops.

Yeah, mine gets toasty with the stock cooler. Looking for a good aftermarket air cooler, and have one option in mind, but wow $100 is a lot for not having guaranteed temperature drops.

Had a stock cooled 6970 with the Aftermarket Arctic Cooling triple fan unit installed.

BEAST,..... reference cards to aftermarket cooling,...SUPER enhanced.

Quieter than my 290 Windforce cooling, but doesn't spin fans as fast.

100% triple fanspeed on Arctics was about 70% of the triple fan Windforce, yet had lower noise levels doing so.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

My biggest problem is that I take pride in have a very cool air cooled system. Without a blower, that air is going to be circulating the case, so I might have to add a fourth fan on the side panel to help with exhaust, which would wreck my amazing (imo) push-pull setup.

Do you really think FX is going to beat Skylake in gaming with DX12 when unlocked Haswell i5's are already on par with 83xx multithreaded performance?

(I'm assuming DX12 will be out in <=1 year, and so will Skylake, but Zen is apparently coming out late 2016)

With the API cutting out over half of the CPU overhead (the use of batching cuts out even more) while truly threading out the rendering workload it will no longer matter how performant a CPU is in single thread. The only reason it matters right now is because the entire rendering workload has to be pushed through UMD by thread 0. Even with the threading capabilities of DirectX 11 (that games like Battlefield 3 utilize) when the threads are finished with their rendering workload they still have to feed it to thread 0 to make it through UMD. Which queues up thread 0 to the point where overhead is easily three to four times higher than on all of the other threads. Meanwhile thread 0 is responsible for game logic etc (your frame times are also impacted by the highest thread latency). Cards like the GTX 970 and R9 280X should more than likely reach their performance wall even when driven by a CPU as cheap as the 860k. Rendering the need for an i5 to sustain high levels of gaming performance no longer necessary. I think AMD will make a big comeback with more builds being based around their cheap FX microprocessors while builders invest their extra cash into much stronger graphics cards for better frame rates. We'll find out later this year when Windows 10 releases as Microsoft is suppose to launch a few DirectX 12 games alongside its debut (I imagine to showcase DirectX 12). There will be synthetics available at that time as well such as the new 3DMark. It's not about which architecture has the most performance. It's about the software stack being able to exploit both of them.

It is pretty annoying as to how unoriginal some people can be. Once DirectX 12 deploys this "Intel is better than AMD for gaming" shit storm will be over.

In drawcall heavy games, yes.

There's still going to be shit like Arma 3 where the issue isn't the renderer but the AI simulation only running on one thread.

I just wish Zen wasn't so far away so we could actually talk about new things.  These threads are all the same people saying the same things.  (Literally copy pasta every thread.)  Atleast it would be something new to talk about. (And hopefully it doesn't suck.)

Because @Faceman has collaborated the wall of text from many sources and users,....very useful, full of facts and knowledge PC builders should know of.

Hence the Copy/Paste method being so commonly used.

You shouldn't cast off AMD entirely.  Zen might prove to be really good.  I am hoping that it is really good, we need it to be really good.  Its just that AMD's FX processors are really bad, right now.

1st - I hope Zen is SMT, octa-core with performance equal to skylake

2nd - wishful thinking - Zen makes Intel's skylake look like a 2 year old chip.

I've noticed my FX-8350 running cooler than many Intel chips at the same clock rate and power consumption, but there are many variables to this. I'm generally an AMD fanboy simply because they are cheaper for similar performance. I know my chip is outperformed, but nobody has yet provided me with a stock CPU that performs as well as mine for less than $200USD.

Written degrees are not the same as total heat produced. Does a frying pan at 200F heat a home better than a radiator at 67F?

Also the Intel Core i3-4150 wins more gaming benchmarks than the FX-8350, so yea, better and cheaper CPUs exist.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

And the 8350 DOES beat the 4690k in compute performence

Unless of course it's AVX256 or floating point.

It basically wins in integer compute only.

Which was never AMD's expectation. I swear that they never do actual tests to see the performance of their CPUs. Either that or they rigged their own benchmarks so they could delude themselves that time and money wasn't wasted.
