Some people like the royalty of 16gb, it helps with ramdisk and rendering. Anyways I had a channel and was rendering videos. The parts new cost $700, so $300 back for a new mobo and used ram/cpu was good for me.

You said $400 before, and not when you take into account all of the money you are having to spend by switching platforms again, when you would have been fine sticking with an i5 + Z97 + 8GB for less than $400 from the start.  If you wanted more RAM, just buy more RAM, it only costs $~60 brand new for 8GB.

Go to page one and read the long post I made.  Somewhere in there, you will find an email from the designer of FX series talking about how it is measured from the core using an algorithm and how the cores run hotter than the socket.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Nice .. ill check that out.. FEED ME MORE!!!!!!!!!

Gonna cuffem and stuffem. QUE QUE QUE. I love it I love it. :P

Important, this post is Speculated Opinion

DX12 may not be the saving grace you think it is...they state parallel and multithreaded nature of the beast...

I have a problem with this...

You then open the floodgates for devs to overtly use & abuse DX12's drawcall enhancements (and other features) to push boundaries further with overpopulated fidelity (Ubisoft?), making the reliance on DX12 paramount..

Wondering what the problem is?

Devs don't always the right decisions!!!

Sweet, we have DX12, lets load 100x more shit in the same hardware config, using DX12 now.. the CPU will still be a limiting factor when it spreads the load in parallel... In these scenario's Intel CPU's may have the same issues,.. devs not mastering optimization of drawcalls and assets.

Whether 80-100% of 2 cores or 20-50% of 8 cores, still an IPC problem that persists in existing,.. you still need faster cores if DX12 tasks were pushed towards their limits too.

Sure, it'll bridge the gap for AMD users, no doubt about it... but in time, that gap will shorten again, and again...hopefully not too much in the time it takes for ZEN to arrive.

But the fact remains, until DX12 arrives, FX will never be recommended by me, and even then DX12 still may not be the savior you expect it to be...

Want AMD?, Wait for ZEN.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Its the Temperatures and Power Consumption Spoiler that talks about it.

Read that entire post I made on the first page.  Every word, Every link, Every benchmark, Every review, Every video.  It paints a clear picture.  Also pricing.  AMD is not less expensive than Intel, and this is for almost every region.

I guess I should also add that the reason I'm not on Intel now is like what some people have already said. Switching platform is going to be more expensive for me, so why not stick with a CPU compatible with my board? My 8350 gets every job done that I need it to do, and it does so damn well. Mostly, I use my computer for homework and VMs, which is amazing with my chip. I occasionally play some high-fps games, which again, my chip handles wonderfully. In the end, I'm happy with my chip, and when I build my next computer, I probably won't be on a college budget, so I can likely build an Intel system. I've loved AMD from the start, but I'll willingly admit that Intel is doing better as of late (and as of their existence for the most part).

You're the one who first said 4690k, so I went off what you said.  No matter, the i5-4670k still delivers a much better experience over the FX.  RAM was that cheap a year ago.  I would know because I built my machine practically a year ago to date and got this RAM for $65.

You shouldn't cast off AMD entirely.  Zen might prove to be really good.  I am hoping that it is really good, we need it to be really good.  Its just that AMD's FX processors are really bad, right now.

You don't need 16GB, its not necessary.  It was not $213.  It wasn't.

Oh, I won't be swearing them off. This computer I'm on now (and the one in my profile - same one) is my first complete build. I will keep it until the day it dies, then I will hold on to it. I also plan to build with AMD again and again, but I do want one machine that just blows every little snot nosed script kiddy out of the water. That, and nobody will ever EVER stop me from loving this computer more than any other project I've ever completed. I love my FX-8350, and no proving how bad it is will stop that. I think in the end, I ended up paying like, $50 for it after selling my old Phenom II x6 1100T Black Edition. So in my mind, this is the absolute best $50 (final cost, not retail) processor ever purchased.

well...CPU and Motherboard are the only things that won't match the rest of the build to be honest...what don't you like about the rest of your rig? the PSU is overkill but it's a very good unit...the seagate drive are freaking loud but they work ok...

I bought the PSU by mistake, I thought my case was the HAF X not xm, I forogt my case had rad mounting holes so my h100i is there by duct tape and ocassionally hitting my ram.

And thats all...

just don't drop in an high-end GPU and you'll keep loving it...once you do that and you realise your FPS are not what they should be and you start monitoring your GPU loads you'll want to slash it with a hammer.
