Please help me with my First PC Build

Go to solution Solved by ObilvionNizer,

I am building my First PC for my work and gaming. Here's the part list http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9j4PLk

This PC will mostly be used for 3D Animation/Rendering, Video editing, Graphic work and etc and also for some gaming. I would have used Firepro or Quadro GPU but they are out of my budget right now and also i won't be able to play games on it so that's why i decided to go with GTX980(will add second GPU in future)

Any suggestion/Feedback?

Build looks good. Why not see if you can get a working quadro or firepro on second hand?

Whats your budget anyway?

Over $1000 for a CPU are you serious!! :o

Surely you could save yourself a lot of cash by getting something a fair bit cheaper that will not be too far off what that i7 will push out.

Hang on...wait a minute...just going to check something...back in a sec  www.xe.com

Erm... I don't think the 8-core CPU is required is required unless you want to keep this rig for the next 6 years upgrading only to a Quadro. And as you know gaming on a Quadro is really difficult (at least on the laptop ones). I think a two-way STRIX 980 SLI will be better.

CPU: i5 4690K @ Stock                GPU: Asus GTX 970 STRIX @ Stock      SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 120GB (OS and Drivers)     Headset: Audio-Technica M20X

Yes!

Don't listen to the people saying you don't need this processor (you don't) but who cares.  In my opinion it's not possible to overkill.  Get what you want, otherwise you might regret it.

Well i decided to build system after Linus this video http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274112-parts-list-for-ultimate-silent-gaming-workstation-pc-build-guide/

I know this Processor is overkill for gaming but not for rendering and other stuff.

Exactly, Strictly for gaming it's a huge waste. for rendering though, those 16 threads will crush whatever you throw at it.

If you went for a CPU thats a step down from this, it might allow for you to add in a Quadro.

If you plan to sli 980s then i would just get a 4 k monitor for editing and high end gaming. Also if you want a second monitor for casual use 1600x900 monitors are only like $80

That's a good suggestion but I think quadro still won't be possible in this budget? I am hoping if I can get a used quadro for cheaper price.

The CPU seems a little much. Could swap that out for something slightly less powerful and upgrade later. Pretty solid but a quadro may be better so maybe swap i7 for a i5 and get a gpu made for what you are wanting to use the computer for.

PC SPECS: Athlon 860k, MSI 380 4GB, 8GB memory, 1TB HDD, Fractal Design Core 1000

Looks like a solid build. And, if you are going to do gaming AND rendering I think the GTX980 will do great with that.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

Although a Quadro will help with his rendering stuff, he won't be able to do much gaming. The 980 will do fine with rendering/3d work, things like. So I personally don't see a reason in buying a Quadro unless he is building it solely for work.
