AMD Mantel Question

matto97

Without AMD Mantel i can play Battlefield 4 on medium at around 30fps but with Mantel i can play it on high at around 35FPS. Can someone tell me, is mantel going away even on games that already have it or it just wont be in any more games?

We don't know that yet. It all depends on game developers.

I see... hope they keep it cause for people with bad computers it really makes a difference... atleast till DirectX 12 is out and working

I don't think it makes sense to remove it. It takes more work to remove it. I think it just won't make any more progress.

Battlefield Hardline will support Mantle. I doubt that many other games will though. At least not in the near future.

Frostbite Engine games will probably be getting it in the short term. Eventually DirectX 12 and Vulkan will take over. Vulkan is partially based on Mantle anyway.

Don't worry.

The new generation of graphics APIs directx12 and openGL Vulkan will boast the same performance benefits. Mantle going away is only a problem if we get stuck on directx11, which we won't.

You are getting essentially the same benefits with DirectX 12 (and Vulkan).

It wont matter as DirectX 12 titles should live up to Mantle performance.

DirectX 12 may match mantle, but Mantle is going to get updates just as DirectX does. And then there's the fact that it is open-source, which will certainly appeal to many game developers.

Trust me, they're only doing the things they're doing because Mantle got there first. Whether it goes away or not is completely irrelevant at this point. At the very least its purpose was to push the other APIs forward because they were doing diddly squat while Mantle came and kicked their teeth down their throats.

Oh, and Intel has said that their CPUs will support Mantle, which will be a gigantic boon given that their graphics controllers suck so much. If for no other reason, I don't see Mantle going away anytime soon for that reason alone. If their Iris Pro graphics start supporting it, it may give them a place as an entry-level graphics solution at the very least.

Sooner than any Nvidia support for Mantle was ever going to come. ;)

I'm pretty confident games will start utilizing it pretty much immediately.

this is much more complicated that you might think, you would need to code the game from with the dx12 API,look how today there are still fairly recent games using dx9 its going to take a while.

its not

dx12() = enable;

sadly.
