would a gtx 690 still be a viable option for my pc ? 

im currently running an r9 290x

With a 290X now? No, definitely not. At that point, just get another 290X.

Wouldn't be much of an upgrade. Plus SLI scaling issues and only 2GB Vram.

 

I'd say no.

I'm that guy with the GPD Win.

Depends if your getting the 690 at 1000 dollars or at a very low price.

lol, yes i know its not exactly the greatest explanation , but ive been dicked around by amd lately. cards failing , driver issues , heat issues (solved that one with new thermal compound ) and the biggest issue no watterblocks anywhere avalable for my r9 290x

trust me, you're better off with anotehr 290x.

i cant think of a single situation where two 290x's couldnt destroy it all. dual 290x is amazing.

 

remember, when you're using the 690 most of the time its like using a single 680.... :/

Don't trade a 290x for a 690, not worth it and I see it as a downgrade.

If you really want an NVIDIA card, do it right and get a GTX 980 or GTX 970.

Don't bother with a 690. Coming from a 690 owner. The only time they ever made sense was if you were going to SLI 680s and didn't have the second PCIe slot. Runs hot, SLI is barely ever on, and won't get you the fps you think it would.

BARELY edges out the 290x in a few scenerios and like a 15fps gain in a even smaller few. usually the 290x killin it. (especially at 4k) 

 

two way 290x kicks ass on about everything.

Just know its a downgrade and it isn't worth it.

 

But its you're decision at the end of the day,so do what you want.

No. 680 SLI is too powerful for 2GB vram to make sense. Keep the 290X, and if you want more performance crossfire it.

No. Not worth it all. Stick with you AMD r9 290x. Remember 690 is a dual gpu so you will only see benefits in games that support dual gpu's.
