How do I deal with the tech support from the ISP?

Icywolfe

I just called then I said my issue. The first guy was great but I gotten pushed up to level 2. And I think level 2 was worse than level 1. So far they said or implied:

Intel i7 is a very slow processor that you need a third party NIC or upgrade to a Pentium Processor.

A Hard drive is faster than a SSD.

A laptop normally had 4 rj45 Jacks so if your one having only one rj45 means it's a old laptop.

I didn't follow their instructions to reboot the computer as no computer can reboot in 7 seconds.

A gigabit router is slower than a 10 megabit router that is why your Netgear nighthawk x6 is a bad router and cheap.

You need to get the cat4 cable as cat4 cables are the fastest for home use. (I said I have cat7 and cat6a cables.) They said it in a way that more close the number is to "1" faster the internet would be.

How is level 2 worse than level 1?! I was loosing brain cells by talking to tech support. It's almost like they are trying to blame my computer for all the problems but they are grasping air because they can't find a real issue about it. But I had a major issue when they said reboot and I had to actually reboot my computer multiple times as they didn't believe a computer can reboot that fast.

It's more of argument support over the phone of the other side saying I didn't follow instructions of rebooting or I didn't read their system requirements.

Yeah.. Just because they work there doesn't mean they are good..

I once talked to someone who wanted to sell home internet to us and she didn't know what a VPN or IPv6 was.

Loved trolling her a bit, with some complicated terms and such (DNS, DHCP and stuff)

Level 1 (which is basic) Knew more than Level 2.

Change ISP ASAP!

ATT is the only other ISP and they are the people that said 0.10 megabits persecond is perfectly fine for online gaming.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They probably know a lot about 1 thing so they got into Level 2..

I think AT&T (or whatever ISP you have) does cellphone stuff too (please don't kill me if I'm wrong), so maybe they know a bit about phones and stuff.. And not home networking/PC's ?

It was very hard to talk to the person as sometimes I had no idea what that person was talking about like the RJ45 port part. The person said for me to replug that on another port on my computer. Huh?

Well there goes my brain cells.

Ask to talk to the manager, or try to figure out the problem yourself. What adapter do you use to connect to your router?

I would point to a driver problem.

I use realtek, but I just checked everything is upto date. The only thing that isn't uptodate is my games which will take 5 days to download the patch..... >.>

I did all the Win Dns stuff and checked with my router what's it's own speed. I think I did everything on my end. (The problem was for about 2 weeks so I had plenty of time of dial up like internet.)

That's when you get their name and number, ask to speak to somebody else, then file a report.

Actually thanks. I forgotten about that.

.___.

I asked my ISP for the thing I needed 5 times over 5 phone calls and 4/5 told me irrelivant information that I did not need. Thank God for the Indian guy that understood English on the 5th phone call.

ATT is worse.

-----------------

I did a simple check of if my switches actually redirects the stuff correctly. (I doubted that would even be a problem.) And this DTR to Router to Switch to NAS is 190-210 megabits/s and the other way around is 480 to 520 megabits/s. I guess it means it works. But oddly the Asus router seems to be a tiny bit faster. (I used to use a Asus Router then switched to the nighthawk as the Asus had issues with multiple wifi devices.)
