Will There Be A Overclockable Broadwell Pentium?

Jayhawk

I'm wondering what Intel will replace the G3258 with. Do you think that Broadwell will have an overclockable Pentium in the lineup or is the G3258 just a one time thing? I'd like to use one in a system for family, but if a newer version is in the works, I'd just wait for that since I'm in no hurry.

I think it may have just been a special one time deal since it was the 20th anniversary of the pentium, I wouldn't expect them to continue it.

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂

The G3258 was for the 20th Pentium anniversary only.

Don't expect a new one.

I don't think so. The G3258 was a special version for a big anniversary for the Pentium.

but they might do it again.

It was a one time thing. The 'new' Pentiums after LGA 1155 are all locked. Only K series are overclockable.

it's pointless to have an unlocked dual core in 2015...so i guess the answer is no...and i assume the celeron and pentium dual core are on the way out...they will probably not renew them i think they should have only core i3, i5 and i7...

Pointless? Not everyone uses a PC for Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Some people just use it for paying bills, shopping, web browsing, word processing, and an occasional game of War Thunder. Dual cores are fine for everyday tasks. A casual overclock and they perform almost on par with an i3 for $40 less.

Modern games? Like what? Like battlefield 4 multi-player?

If you're having issues with an unlocked pentium your setup was wrong. It played every game I threw at it

Yeah. There's a major problem with his setup. Plus only 4gb of memory doesn't help

its still better than a locked dual core. if you only have £80 to spend on a cpu and motherboard then the G3258 is a great choice, with an upgrade path.

Probably not.

It's a shame... I wish they had unlocked chips for all families. Would LOVE to see an i3-4130K =)

With 99% certainty, the answer is NO. The G3258 was kind of limited edition processor launched because of the 20th anniversary of Intel.
