GTX 960 or R9 270x or R9 280 or R9 285?

I'm looking for a graphic card. My proccesor is the AMD fx 6350. I'm not a heavy gamer. Just looking to play some big games like Far cry 3.

r9-270 non-x, if you have the cash to spare get the 280
you'll gain 50% more memory bandwidth (assuming same ram speeds).
50% more vram total
and 40% more stream processors and texture mapping units.
bit overkill for 1080p but hey they're dirt cheap.

270 and 270x are same chip.

285 is a slightly modified 280 on a 270 board.

960 if you don't wanna suck power but still want good gaming power.

270X if you need gaming on a budget.

280 if you want more performance

285 if you wanna get good perormance/price.

I'd go 960, it's as strong as the 285 but it's cheaper

tbh, I'd just go with a 960, lower power, ALOT of nice nvidia tech. dynamic super resolution is prob really nice for older games 3+ years old.

The 280x or the 285x will get you more performance per dollar.

 

It may not be on your mind, but a processor upgrade would also help you out too :)

DSR works like a charm. I got RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, a 10+ year old game to run at 1920x1080 at 30FPS on a GT610.

Out of these options 285 and 960 are fastest.

280 shines when overclocked.

The 280 is the vest option. It has three gigabytes of vram, overclocks like a madman and can be found cheaper than the 960 and 285.

think the newer architecture does tessellation better so it depends on the game and settings. Also 285 supports freesync and downsampling from 4k via the driver

Yep, you hit it right on the head. In fact the 285 beats the 280 easily in games that uses tessellation like assassins creed 4 , and the extra geometry units in the tonga gpu make it perform better. In other games they trade blows.
