so for homework i have been tasked to see if i can make the digits 8, 8, 3, 3 equal 24. I can use any operation (including exponents) but i can only use those digits, and i must use all of them.

if there is no possible way, no solution is a solution, as long as we can explain it.

 

ps. My other piece of homework is to find the difference between a negitive sign and a subtraction sign. i think that for this i can just say that a subtractionn sign is removing the number to the right from the number to the left but a negative sign is inverting the number to below 0.

Why wouldnt it count? the question was using only those digets... and the first line only uses those digets, it says ANY operation

Well, it was just the 1/3 that I thought was wrong. 1/3 = 3^(-1) and -1 isn't in that list of numbers. 

 

Using indices is in Wikipedia's order of operations, but the factorial that was in the other solution you find online isn't

 

I'm just curious, that's all. My dad's an A level maths teacher, so I'll ask him a bit later, but he's teaching right now
