so for homework i have been tasked to see if i can make the digits 8, 8, 3, 3 equal 24. I can use any operation (including exponents) but i can only use those digits, and i must use all of them.

if there is no possible way, no solution is a solution, as long as we can explain it.

 

ps. My other piece of homework is to find the difference between a negitive sign and a subtraction sign. i think that for this i can just say that a subtractionn sign is removing the number to the right from the number to the left but a negative sign is inverting the number to below 0.

yes, that is any operation, you can also use fractions if that helps.

Then you convert 22 to base 9

So you could write that out as

The NEGATIVE sign is just a teenie tiny bit shorter than the subtraction sign.

To me they are the same thing. For example, 5 - 3 is the same as (5)+(-3)

A negative sign is not necessarily indicatory of a subtraction. To explain myself I'll use ' as a sign for necative.

 

x'y != x - y

x'y == x('y) == x(0 - y)
