How will Nvidia respond to the 300 Series?

Tim Drake

I am just wondering what you guys think Nvidia are going to do in response to the 300 Series.

If it is a price drop on the 970 and 980, I think AMD can move aside :P

Imagine a price drop on those cards! it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

Unless they think their 980ti can beat AMDs 390x, and they're just waiting to release that.

Very exciting time to like tech :P

They will respond with 7,5GB cards :Dsorry, I had to

1. That's 7GB. If you want to pull off a joke then do it right

2. It's not even close to funny anymore

@Tim Drake

They probably won't immediately other than a price drop but the 1000 series will be their response

*angry grumble*

P.S it would still be 8GB if that's what you're suggesting. The 970 came with 4GB of VRam and that is fact.

It sure is!

I reckon they will keep the 980 TI in R&D until they find out how the 300 Series performs   ;)

It depends what AMD release. Most likely they will have to do a price drop and they will end up releasing a Ti Version of the 980 and 960 possibly.

I'm sticking with my reference 970 unless AMD can make a reference cooler that's more sexually attractive.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I think thats what's most likely alright.

Instead of a 970ti, they may make a 960ti at the same price as the 960 to beat the 280x offerings? Or just drop the 960 in price..

I think I came at the thought of that.

The 970 TI would have less cuda cores than a 980 but a full speed memory.

It would be between the 970 and the 980 and cost a bit more.

It would have a little bit more ROPS also and a faster base clock.

Thats how i would do it.

Im guessing the reference cards are easier to get up "there" than the more blocky aftermarket coolers?:P

Those coolers

I wonder what the new AMD stock coolers will be like, maybe akin to the 295x2 ones, not quite as sexy, but pretty good looking no less.

To be honest with you I don't think that it would make too much sense for that card to exist. I mean it'd be nice, but why not just go for a fully fledged 980 in that case.

Kind of a limbo case, 970 for great performance per dollar, or 980 for power absolute.

Because it would be like 430 bucks instead of the 550 bucks of a 980.

970 - 350 bucks.

970 TI - 430 bucks.

980 - 550 bucls

Hmmm, I guess its a great place for price. If they were feeling nice they would make a 980 ti for 550 and then drop the 980 to to around 450, but that's a bit far fetched :P

Fair enough :)

Back in the R9 295x2 speculation thread, there were 7 pages of "will it melt the case?" and "that's my heating sorted for winter"

If you think the GTX 970 memory joke is old, son, you don't fucking know old. Or you're a hypocrite. Either way, get used to some Nvidia bashing, they deserve it.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

1. I  never said it was old, I said it wasn't funny anymore

2. I do know old, another joke being older is irrelevant

3. I'm not a hypocrite.... I never entered the R9 295X2 speculation thread

Lets try to just leave the whole old jokes and bashing aside and just talk about the subject at hand guys.

Just to avoid another drama thread.

AMD are in the same situation for both CPUs and GPUs... BEHIND! They might provide just as much raw power but Intel and NVidia make it much easier to utilise. Due to this, NVidia will come out with a card that beats the flagship 300 series card without them having to do much work at all.

As someone on the forum once said, Nvidia "we have developed a new technique of utilising the core more while maintaining low temps"

I just thought it would be a little funny, dude :) I dont bash Nvidia, I am rocking a 970 too and even plan a second one for SLI, I dont care much about that "feature" the 970s have
