Intel Xeon E5-4600 V3-Processors Specs Surface - 18 Core Galore

The real sad thing is that atleast the early samples for the 5960X had 10 cores on them meaning they were Xeons. So if Intel really wanted to it would not take much to make an overclockable 2P 5960X system or one of these new Xeons. It's an artificial limitation as far as I am aware unless they are only putting 8 cores on the 5960Xs but the Xeons could be unlocked and overclocked.

They had to drop the base clock of the 5960X to 3GHz in order to keep thermals in check and TDP under their target. Adding two more cores would require another drop in frequency that most people wouldn't want, especially if they didn't get a particularly good overclocking chip.

If you think about it, a 4 processor computer could handle 72 virtual machines, and if it was possible to set it up in a similar way to ncomputing, Money might actually be saved (I priced a dual CPU version at almost $65,000).
