Headphones- What is your favourite type, brand, style, sound

Weirdybeardyman

This is a thread to see what people like in headphones;

Type, brand, style and sound.

I personally prefer full closed cup, over ear headphones, i am a bit of a Sennheiser and AKG fanboy, i like clean simplistic/minimalistic looking headphones and like headphones that have alot of clarity, with good highs and mids and discrete bass.

Now lets hear from you Audiophiles out there.

Sony, Over ear.

Cable on the right!

Closed, with sound dampening.

Clean, modern headphones that fit well.

I personally own the Sony MDR-1A/s. The left side cable annoys me though.

Audio Technica ATH-m50x, my all time favourite headphones, have owned UE6000, Turtle Beach X12 crap, G930, AKG K240 mk2 all in the past few years, nothing compares to the m50s.

A comforable fit, reasonable but not overpowered bass, interchangable cables, clear audio, must haves.

I'm no audiophile, but I know a bit about headphones.

I like open headphones. Looks are also very important, as is build quality. Minimalism and high end materials are a turn on

av_fideliox2_ondeskwithq701.jpg

^currently saving up for those (the X2's not the AKG's).

As for sound, I like a warmer sounding pair, with some emphasis on bass, but without being too overpowering/muddy. I also like the really wide soundstage of open headphones

I am currently running some Sennheiser HD 449s but I am more of a Klipsch kind of guy myself. The 449s are decent but lack the power of some others I have tried. Perhaps it's my sound card ... " Asus Xonar DGX" mabey I have to get a better Dac/AMP ?

Currently really liking the AKG K7XX

Probably one of the comfiest headphones I've tried on.

Although the only problem is that the ear pads are the biggest dust collectors on the planet. (more than my PC) :P

For brands, I like Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser and AKG for great overall style, sound and comfort.

I'm a student so they gotta be closed. I've had good experiences with audio technica, but I love the build quality of V-Moda

style I prefer black with some red (tips glass to marques) slightly V shape sound with a Rumbly extreme low but not too much midbass. has to shake my ear with bass when amped in the 20-40 hz region

For brand I really like sennheiser my hd 558 and momemtum in ear are fantastic headphones. They offer great sound quality everything is clear and not muddy, they have control and tight bass , great build quality and amazing comfort. I like over ear headphone best for listening to music on my pc and for my phone i use in ear one since they are very portable.I have a big dislike for on ear headphone though they are so uncomfortable, for me it is hard to keep them on more then 15 min.

If you want a really cheap budget pair of headphones, please go with something like this instead of Skullcandy's

Not really audiophile level here but prefer my akg's over beyerdynamics dt. AKG's are my favourite because they are open or at least half open and they sound neutral. Proud owning K612's from older batch, manufactured in austria not in china. No° 00012x :D

So prefer open cans, because I'm sweating quite easy. And a soundstage that focus on vocals because I'm mainly listening to rock/pop where instrument/vocals seperation is more important then a heavy baseline.

I heard Skullcandy's have Sennheiser speakers. All I know is that the Skullcandy noise cancelling over ear phones I used in the past had massive and wonderfully powerful and tight BASE, clean mids and a very crisp high end and they were cheap cheap cheap.

You are probably the one in LTT audio forum who owns / owned the most expensive headphones between all of us :D

I prefer neutral - slightly bright headphone with focus on vocal and string instrument, they bring a sense of forwardness to the headphone. I tried Q701 and can't wait to try K812. Looking forward to upgrade my beloved RE-400 to SE535 or UE Refrence Monitor. HD600 is here to stay, probably I'll get HE-560 one day

Na, there's a guy on here that has lcd-2, I think lcd-3 & lcd x + hd800 + alpha dogs & something else, but he never posts on here anymore so IDK what happened to him. Also I think @NannerBeans has gone through more stuff then I have, IDK tho.

I've owned a lot more headphones than Lays but most of them were not as expensive as his LCD 2/HD800. If you add up all the costs of my previous headphones it would be more though.

Edit: I've had or have the Pioneer SE-A1000, V-Moda Crossfade LP, Audio Technica M50S, Sony MDR7506, Sony MDR 1R, CHC Silverados, AKG K612, AKG K550, AKG K7xx, Beyerdynamic DT770, DT990, COP, Sennheiser PC360, Sennheiser IE60, Sennheiser Momentum Over ears, Modded Fostex T50RP V3, Modded Fostex T50RP V1 (soon), Fostex TH600, Fostex TE05,Vintage Grado RS1, Shure 440 with 840+940 pads, Shure 1540, Hifiman HE400, and a few Jlabs IEMs. I think I'm forgetting about a few headphones I've had though.

I wish I could of had lcd-2 and hd800 at the same time & could of kept em, but my setup wasn't done and I wanted to spend the money on other stuff.

I've gotten more enjoyment out of the stuff I spent the money on so it's w/e

Funny thing about K812 is how unpopular it is compared to HD800. I really really like AKG's house sound.

But you know you can say you have 10 $300 headphones, but people will be impressed by someone owning a pair of $1K+ headphone :P
