Hey,

I recently ordered the parts to build my pc. When opening and looking through my NVIDIA GTX 970 manual, it requires a minimum of 500W power supply for the whole system. I bought two of these cards and intend to run them in SLI. PCPartPicker estimates I will need about 550W, yet when I spoke with NVIDIA's customer support they recommended 700-800W. I currently have a Corsair RM 650. How much power will I need overall? Thanks!

Build:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Your current psu is fine. Psu recommendations are often inflated to cover their butts.

650W will be enough, but maybe get a 750 just the PSU is more chilled

A 500w pus would be fine, but a tiny bit iffy. 650w is plenty for triple 970s if you want an upgrade. The 970 really doesn't use that much power, generally less than 170w under load.

Nvidia customer support is more accurate, remember that you are not aim for your psu to have just enough power, you want it to run around 60% for peak efficiency.

No they are not... They over estimate. 650is more than enough

650 is actually good enough , unless you want to upgrade to a platinum grade for anywhat difference you need to make, reason is that regardless the TDP the system recommendation says it should have , real world performance your system (your setup) is actually pulling less tan 500-550 watts max from the wall at the peak performance so the more power labeled ones are actually useless for your build except looking mighty cool & it has been tested, Hope this helps you out..

Details separate people.
