need help possibly picking out a headphone upgrade

d6s

I have Astro A40s right now...and I was thinking of possibly upgrading soon.... the wire on my A40s constantly twists up on me and gets annoying when I try to move somewhere and the twist puts un-needed stress on the wire... I was thinking of going with the wireless Astro A50s, but i'm not sure if I'd rather do that, or go with a pair of good headphones and get a modmic.. just looking for some recommendations

Yeah, headphones + modmic will probably be better.

Astro's are cool and fine.. But not amazing.

the astro cord is removable, but it is just the fact that it twists up and idk why

Well, if you have money for Astro A50, it means you have at least $300 budget, what's your actual total budget? Do you need open back or closed back headphone?

Okay, so open back = no sound isolation, you can hear people and if they're close enough to the headphone, they'll be able to hear what you're listening to.

Closed back = isolates you from the surrounding.

Open = Generally better sound stage, less boomy bass

Closed = More boomy bass, more condensed sound stage

Consider Shure SRH-840 or Beyerdynamic DT770 (80 ohm) then

M100 could also be a good option, excellent basshead headphone + you can get the boompro mic from vmoda

I own a pair of a40's and a50's. The a50's are a significant improvement. Almost identical feel as far as comfort goes. The wireless connectivity is great, I feel spoiled being able to move about freely. Going back to wired headphones has been a rough transition.

But I will say, for 300 dollars there are WAY better options. I ended up going from the a50's to a pair of Sennheiser 598's with a modmic. The sound quality on both the mic and headphones is phenominal. Significantly better then the a50's. Not having wireless sucks, but worth it in my eyes for the sound quality gain.

I wish there was a way to make any headset that you could take the wire out of, wireless... like put a different jack in that connected to another jack through bluetooth or something

I'm sure they have a wireless adapter or something running off of 3.5mm. At work atm so I can't check >< but I swear Amazon has an adapter for everything xD.

Yea if you wanna go completely wireless headphones a50's are probably your best bet. Especially since your going from a40's.

You could also go wireless headphones with a desktop mic. Now unfortunatly a desktop mic is going to pick up everything in the area (Rip mechanical keyboard).

I'm actually thinking about jimmyrigging one of those super low profile countryman mics, and sticking it to the side my 598's. Hell, I'll even get it to match the tan color scheme (:

Yeah, I have one, only cost $10 or so. Problem is it outputs the signal at line level. So you'd need a separate headphone amp in between. A Fiio E6 should be fine, as it's tiny, and does the job well.

OP has $300, I'm pretty sure if he know linus' channel he also knows logan's channel. I've seen the link of the video being beaten around the bush over and over and over again. I would suggest you actually watching the video, learn from it and then actually coming here with an answer or at least options that you can give.

Forgive me if it sounds harsh, but I'm rather fed-up of seeing this thing being brought up again

Well said! Drives me nuts when people provide super vague loose advice especially when OP was fairly specific. We didn't really provide any information aside from 'hey go there watch the thing'.

Having said that, we did go over some of the basic ideas outlined in his video (Mid tier cans paired with external mic - 598 with modmic) already in this thread.
