Yes of course. It's the newest and most powerful i5 out there. And games don't need anything more than that.

Most top-endish Intel cpu's even from like 5 years ago are still rocking... Newer boards might have more features though. In your case that cpu is far from obsolete :)

I'm still of the mind that any second-gen or later (2007+) dual-core chip is still not properly obsolete. Sure, the platform may not have new cpus built for it (that said, AM3+ is looking that way what with all the FM2 stuff and my 8320 is pretty decent) and it'll get killed on more demanding games (cpu or gpu bound since it'll probably bottleneck) but my old Athlon 64 X2 4200+ is still going strong - just needs a nice SSD and maybe a gaming-grade gpu in that rig and it'll do 1080p no probs.

Obsolete is P4 and backwards

People still use the 2500k and that's a pretty decent CPU by today's standards, the 4690k is definitely not obsolete.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

There is actually no big difference when gaming between a 4690k and a 2500k unless you run games at small resolutions and then it is like the difference between having 200fps vs 250.....nobody cares.

I will keep my 2500k for at least another year. Even Luke said in one of his videos that there has come nothing since the Sandy Bridge CPUs (of which he used the 2600k) that has justified an upgrade over that generation. Maybe Skylake will be different....who knows.

It's actually the GPU that has to render huge amount of pixels at 4K so it's not the CPU one should worry about. It's a GPU dependent situation.

4690k is good for gaming at 60 fps (or more in less demanding games of course) and should be able to handle upcoming games at such framerate as well. So unless you're trying to achieve 100+ fps in CPU heavy games like BF4, you're good.
