fx 8350 bottleneck

abdoo

See that's the difference between me and various other users...i'm an AMD user, not an AMD fanboy.

While I enjoy the experience that my 8350 is delivering, I can't argue that in gaming, it's weaker than the i5s, hell it's than some i3s in some games. But the fact that gaming is not all I do, and various other aspects(such as the time when i bought the system, the deals I found at that time, the parts I had previously, budget for parts at that time..) made me choose the 8350 over an i5. But this was like 8 months ago. Right now, the cases when an FX is more suitable than an i5 are pretty much inexistent...

yeah the thing is i never said im an amd fanboy, i owned an intel processor and i owned an amd processor and i cant tell any difference as far as my usage goes and i feel happy that i saved some money going for a cpu which more or less performs the same.

yes and i've linked the price available right now at 212$ for both...it's not much different...and the FX cost about 10$ more in electic bills per year so it will eat up your ''saved money'' rather quickly IMHO...

anyway, what's done is done...i'm glad you like your FX i hated mine and this is all bad souvenirs now.

We're in the same boat when it comes to enjoying. I enjoy my FX too, and I'm sure I'll do even after I get an R9 280X, but that's as high as I will go for GPUs. 280X is more than enough for 1080p and.

Any higher tier card will be bottlenecked, although I wouldn't feel it because the framerates will be the same.

The question is: Why would I spend more money on a better graphics card, when a cheaper one does the same job in my case?

IMHO I'd keep the R9 270 for fullHD, i tested it on fullHD(LG 47" TV) and I was absolutely impressed. I could play Shadow of Mordor cranked to high..with no stuttering. There was a slight FPS drop on averages compared with 1440x900, which was expected...but other than that...it still was smooth.

No your not i googled it

Bulldozer and Piledriver are the architectures on which the FX CPUs are based...

We back to that again are you? I showed you what you wanted to see, which was me running around a town in skyrim. Something you said my FX4300 wouldnt be able to do at all. Skyrim doesnt drop below 60fps with everything in the game by default maxxed out. So sorry if there wasnt graphics mods everywhere, but I am not a graphics whore. Gaming since the 1980's will do that to a person. I care more about the gameplay itself, and the graphics are only a small part of that.

I called BS on those that told me for example that my Core 2 would bottleneck my 970, and that skyrim would suck. I'm playing 1080p with a shitload of graphics mods and cpu usage doesn't hit 100%, whilst GPU usage-not the Bus usage-does. I only use slightly over 2GB vRAM too, so my 650 ti does the 60fps flat as well (247MHz stable OC due to nvidia voltage limits, 197MHz OC on the 970).

Sorry i cant believe any of those benchmarks when i have seen video's of these games and none of them run like that in real gameplay.

IKR? I play the exact same games use in reviews on my computer, and unless the game is optimized for quad cores, I see no bottlenecks at all (do I need to SS my steam and origin library, and all of the relevant system monitors after an hour of playing for those that are being idiots?)

As I said when I finished my post, do you want me to show the screen shots? Because I've got an entirely different experience. (BTW, PCIe 1.1 mobo-the next model up had PCIe 2.0)

Ok, will do (fyi, the single core performance of my core 2 at 4GHz exceeds any AMD cpu at the same speed so it handles 1-2 threaded games a lot better).

Fact that 8350 is not a bottleneck still even running on 3 year old hardware is impressive to me.

I think it has do with games using more cores now then back then.

i owned one it's far from good by todays standard...i owned FX and haswell based CPU as well...FX is miles bettter than core 2 stuff...just by sheer clock speeds and core counts it will vastly destroy the 2% or so better IPC of these old intel chips.

lol...and you saw that: ''introducing our 8 core FX processors''...those are crippled 4 modules inneficient parts that came out in like 2011...no need to ''introduce'' nearly 5 years old outdated parts wtf!

I find those 8350's etc rip-off for a gaming system, for the same price you can get much better CPU's and people deserve this but AMD is again playing games like this;

900x900px-LL-6756c890_220-20DOTA20220Pri

"Competitive" leadership, yeah.. Nothing more than vicious marketing, it's almost false advertising to me. You rarely see people regretting their i5 or i7 after they look how worse AMD performs.

this architecture was introduced with bulldozer CPU and then slightly improved with piledriver which is this series of CPU...bulldozer was developped in 2010 with server purposes in mind and was released as an ''enthousiast'' part in october of 2011 and even at the time it was meh.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulldozer_%28microarchitecture%29

Developed in 2010? It took them 6 years; youtube.com/watch?v=koepHTdw7ZE @ 1:10 (that guy got fired btw who works for Samsung now)

Nope, just ran crysis 3 (high spec preset) until the part where Prophet is given the bow. Going to do the first level in BF4 next. BTW, only 2%? PMSL:

There is no way an 8350 will throttle at idle, underload if something isnt right it will, but not at idle. I am sure you mean that AMD cool'n'quiet is just slowing down your CPU while it isnt doing much work, or at least I hope that is what you mean. If your CPU is really throttling at idle due to high temps, then you couldn't have seated the cooler correctly when you put the system together. Either that, or you added additional thermal compound to what was already on the CPU cooler new out the box; which would really mess up your system temps. What are your temps in °C at idle and under load?

@Faceman: between myself and my boyfriend, we have 300+ games just for pc alone; including MMO's. There is only one game we have between us that is below 60fps, and that is Watchdogs; which I didn't pay money for anyway. It was free with my GTX780. Even MMO's run perfectly well, as well as Minecraft with the Feed the Beast mod pack in a very populated and built on world. Doesnt even struggle with it. I know you wont believe that without me posting pics, but other AMD users who are not having issues, will know that what I have just put up isn't just rubbish. But like I keep saying, anyone who has an AMD system should stay put till at least October. AMD should have hopefully at least announced something by then. If not, then as I keep saying; even I will be jumping ship back to intel. Anyone building a new system right now, Intel is the only way to go. But that only counts for gaming alone.

I'll look into more of this Cool'n'quiet. It is enabled by default.

Though it still doesn't change why it would run very terrible in many games, like 20 FPS difference between an i3/i5.
