I now know the fury of Steam.

dizmo

So I opened up Steam today for the first time in probably almost a year and a half (except for a brief stint to play...I can't even remember what) and I took a gander at the sale.
...I now know why you people have such large game libraries.

This is the first time I've been hit by the Steam Sale, but I now know it's true fury. I bought Euro Truck Simulator 2, Civ 5, and I'm very tempted to buy Dark Souls 2, though I'll hold off for now and ponder it during tonights drinking.

I'm not a huge gamer unlike most people on this forum. So this is all rather new to me. Hell, I probably can't even play Dark Souls 2 on my current machine, but I am upgrading in the next few months..so might as well buy it? Or does it go cheaper? I always assumed this was the big sale of the year.

It might get a bit cheaper in the next few days, wait for the last day on which it is on sale.

If you haven't played it already, I strongly recommend you pick up bioshock :)

One reason people have such big libraries is because Humble Bundle sales.

I donated for the SEGA bundle 2 weeks ago and that featured a few games and also a collection. That collection counts as 5 different games.

And all that for only 4 $

Hmmm I see.

Is the last day of the sale when they have all the cheap stuff? Is it like the "best of the week" thing? When is the last day of the sale?

I think I might have, it seems vaguely familiar. It was one of the games my dad said was a must play.

Every game on sale has a date on which the sale expires. You can usually see this date on the product page; along the way it might get cheaper.

Bioshock really is a masterpiece in every respect. If you had to play one videogame in your whole life, it would be one of the top candidates :) other games I really recommend are doom 3, wolfenstein tno, quake 2, batman:arkham city.

I've got some golden rules when buying from steam sales.

1. If the game is relatively new, I expect it to be at least 60% off.

2. If the game is kind of old, I expect it to be at least 75% off.

3. If the game has good reviews, back to rules 1/2.

4. Does it have a Special edition? Back to rules 1/2.

5. Does it have DLCs, is it a GOTY, what about it's season pass? Back to rules 1/2.

If I don't follow these, then I feel like I've wasted my money. Moreover, I feel like a compulsive buyer.

It gets cheaper during the 48 hours its on sale? Good to know! I'll remember to wait longer next time.

I've played Doom 3 and Quake 2, and most of the Wolfenstein games. I have played a fair number of games, just none in the past few years. Work women work work.

Vicious cycle.

I think System Shock 2 was one of my all time favorite games.

Funnily enough the post you had in another thread where you posted the amount you spent/it's value is what made me log on to see what was available.

Thanks a lot, bud ;)

Haha, yeah I only bought the cheap games too. Both of the ones I bought were 75% and 80% off.

I'll try and follow those though! Really? New games go 60% off? Why does anyone pay full price?

I really enjoyed the summer and winter sales years ago when I first started. Then I realized that I barely play games anymore, or most games I don't care for. I didn't buy anything during the summer sale, and last winter sale, I think I only bought like 2 games. Sales are very exciting, makes people who didn't use to be PC gamers just amazed at all the cheap games they could have.

Yeah. I mean, it is pretty cool, there are definitely deals I've gotten and been pleased with. Games that I paid $15 for, played a couple of times, and then never again.

It just makes it so that I don't feel ripped off. If I'd paid $60 for a game and played it for the same amount of time, I'd be pissed.

$4 for Euro Truck Simulator 2...what a no brainer. Even if I get 20 minutes of fun out of it, it's well worth it.

Haha, thanks!

Apparently there's an updated version of the game coming out eventually that runs a lot smoother. A buddy told me to wait for that one.

I bought it originally on the Xbox and played it through completely, didn't want to wait for the PC release. ( the Souls series is my favorite game series). But I had yet to buy any DLC, Then I saw the sale and I was like "hmm I should get the DLC and stuff on the computer and just restart" and so I did.

Did your friend say when they were updating it :o? I may wait to start till they do that.
