Computer Anxiety

Does anyone else get really anxious when they think something might be wrong with their computer?

Any time mine makes a strange noise (coil whine) I start freaking out and investigating all possible causes. Right now my SSD seems to be slowing down, and the anxiety from it is actually giving me a headache.

So does anyone else get this way when their custom system might not be performing as expected, or am I just a crazy person?

Yeah I get worried when my PC has a problem too, such as when I come home and for some reason it is off because of some problem.

You just need to relax and get comfortable with your machine :)

I just go "eh, fuck it, if it breaks it breaks, i cant fix that"

btw how old is your ssd? heavy writing onto the disk wears it out over time. or do you have an 840 evo? they're notorious for slowing down after a while :P

I get a little bit afraid when my desktop goes offline; it's on 99% of the time and going offline tells me three possible things: Something crashed/broke in my desktop, internet went down, or power's out. Two of which are scary.

Sometimes. Last night I left my computer idle for a few hours came back and the text was all derped up, I was "Okay what died now"... Restarted and well fixed. Although I wasn't too worried.

I get particularly anxious when playing games and they start artifacting - given my video card's power and ram chips aren't necessarily cooled properly.

I think the thing that causes me to freak out so much is the knowledge that I can't replace anything if it breaks. Being in college sucks hard, and without my computer I'm back to being stuck on a console for my gaming needs.

Yea I always get pretty obsessive about silly things like my video cards falling from their PCIE slots so I check the screws like everyday, weird habit I guess. There's also my weird obsession of only playing games that's on my SSD, I'd uninstall a game just to make space for another one while my  hard drive still has 500GB of free space. I also always try to reach the maximum overclocking profiles my system is capable of being  afraid of not using my machine to its full potential, resulting on countless blue screens, crashes :/

When GFE or a GPU driver install or something caused all my games to not work... luckily a reboot fixed it

and then there's that time my PC would not start up.. it resolved itself.. maybe it was because I was playing planetside 2 on maxed out settings with a GTX 660....

Not only with the PC, I get worried if i hear a strange noise in my car, on my fridge, when hearing some weird cracking in my earphones that turn out to be just a bad MP3..

Pretty much everything makes me worry.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

If I can boot up my PC and play a game honestly it doesn't bother me.   I'll make note of small problems or noises but thats about it.  I've never been a stickler for noise, I played a 360 as a main gaming source for years and that thing was quite loud.

No I always feel in control. I've never had a problem I've had to reach out for beside my alienware craptop, which I ended up figuring out.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

After I watercooled my $4000 PC, I couldn't sleep for like 2 weeks, only in small spurts.

Yeah, because my PC is the only thing which is MINE, not the kids, not the wife. MINE!

So yeah, I freak out when shit goes wrong, but for some reason I have no problem overclocking it.

Nope not even a little bit. If something acts up I fix it or wait for it to die then fix it.

Edit: my wife goes bananas though and if anything so much as hiccups she thinks everything is fried, especially if the Internet drops out on the isps end for any reason.
