I got a high pitched wine for the longest time and it scared the shit out of me. Turned out it was the really shit plug adapter for my External drive plug. And I replaced my 6970 after I got the occasional weird artifacting issue or google maps would go purple. Thing still works and lives in a little box as a backup and I now use this 660. I also currently have the suspicion my motherboard is killing parts as well as itself in the process. I mean I want to rebuild the whole thing so it does not go and brake on my during university because I need that shit for work. And not to mention I also want to buy a Mac Mini so I have a backup to the backup.

Not really since I'll mist likely be able to fix it and if not.. anxiety won't fix it for me either.

I get this more when something I don't know a lot about breaks or starts acting weird. Cars may be a good example for that.

do have an 840 EVO! It isn't even a year old yet.

Download Samsung Magician, update firmware, tune it for maximum performance and set at least 16gb of overprovision. Should be back to normal, (or better, if you hadn't done the last two steps before) no problem.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Yeah, I feel really silly for not having done all of this beforehand. Thank you (and the other people) for relieving me of my ignorance. I haven't had a chance to do it yet because I'm trying to soldier through this last "Professors hate you and want you to suffer" week at school. We are about to go on Thanksgiving break, so I'll have lots of time to tinker with it then.  :D

Whenever the POST is longer than 1 second, I think that the board is dead.

Right? I think that my board may not have a bright future ahead of it anyway. I'm pretty sure it has some capacitor whine. All of the research that I've done so far suggests that this is not a good sign for MSI boards.

After I watercooled my $4000 PC, I couldn't sleep for like 2 weeks, only in small spurts.

Anytime I heard a weird noise I thought it was a leak, or the pump dying. LOL

I did the exact same, I would wake in the night to a small sound and think that the computer was leaking... A full check commenced before going back to sleep again...

My first custom watercooled pc, I stayed all night and didn't sleep while I was testing my loop! dunno why I just sat there watching it run

I find watercoolers to be nothing but hassle. Air cooling is just so damn reliable. You can't beat the reliability of a block of metal.

Honestly once the leak testing is done, the only possibility of something going wrong for the most part is a pump failing, which happens very rarely from what I've seen.  Especially with good pumps like the mcp-xxx series.

The performance of a custom loop outweighs the "reliability" issues IMO.

I am extremely careful with my tech... A friend said this: "You treat your laptop like it is Jesus reincarnated..." I'm worried about possibly damaging it and I would just HATE myself...It is not just tech. We call it OCD (for me it is rather light so it is not a huge issue).

EDIT: Thankfully, I have a girlfriend now, which makes me have less time to just worry about things... That gives me other things to think about and makes me more of a normal human being...

The performance isn't miles better in the majority of cases though. It isn't even that much quieter as air cooling can be pretty quiet. Okay if you are running super high overclocks 24/7 then maybe but as someone who has a k series i7 overclocked (4.2GHz is not huge on a 2600k but its enough), my temps and noise levels are fine. Air is so much cheaper as well.

Makes no sense to me anymore for average user.

Custom loops have never been for the average user anyways :P If the loop is done properly with lots of rad space, the fans can basically be turned off and still keep temps under control.  With my old 3930k+ 2x 780 system, I could game with the fans at 600 RPM making absolutely no noise and temps wouldn't creep much past 48c on the GPU's and 60 on the CPU with the CPU at 4.8 ghz and the 780's over-volted to 1.325v @ 1320/7600.

I agree it costs entirely to much for the performance gains though, and it's not for the everyday user definitely not.

You quoted him when he was talking about a custom loop, which is what I was talking about as well.

AIO are not very good IMO, had one in the past and I think high end air is better.

No you make a good point about running at really low RPM for CPU + 2 GPUs. I suppose for super high end it makes sense. I personally don't really see the point in super high end either though. To me it isn't worth the money but that is just me. :)
