Didn't manage to get to sleep tonight, and I've been going to sleep late (2-3AM) most nights this month, and the month before.

I don't have any high caffeine drinks after 8 or 9, and I eat at around 7 or so.

I don't want to get into sleeping pills, any advice?

Don't go to sleep to late. Simple as that.

If it was that simple would I post this topic?

Cut the caffeine earlier imo. I avoid caffeine all together because of this issue as well. Getting plenty of exercise and eating healthy goes a long way.

Preferably 10 or so

That's a good 8-10 hours sleep before I have to get up most days

Probably a good idea. Cut the caffeine for a week or two, see if it helps?

To be honest i wouldn't have caffeine after 6 for starters, and then i would do something that bores you, i find that once i'm in bed, there is no way a book or youtube video can keep me awake:) hope that helps

Listen to a podcast like the tek or old wan show archives as you sleep. It helps a TON. I do it every now and then when I can't sleep

Think about stuff you like to do in your spare time. When I have trouble going to sleep I think about video games.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

It might be tough. In your case, you can have coffee in the morning etc. Just don't have any caffeine after 2-3pm.

Good that I'm not alone here... I go to sleep at 22.00 - 23.00 and actually fall asleep at 0.30 - 2.30. I'm just oddly energetic at night.

The joys of being a natural night owl while the "normal" people are expected to be early birds... No love for us who are nocturnal by nature...

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

Night owls don't exist. Staring at your monitor, especially in a dark room. That can fuck with your circadian rhythm. Your brain produces melatonin naturally, you're just screwing around with your brain chemistry by doing so. Honestly, I expected more educated answers on LTT. It's common sense.

Get off the computer about an hour before you go to sleep and read a book.

Works perfectly for me^^ A brain needs some time to wind down

I get to sleep before midnight. If I don't, my body will kick into reserve power mode and I'll get a second wind and never get to sleep.

I dont drink anything with caffeine after about 6. Usually it's fine, heck, I sometimes drink a nice cup of warm coffee in the evening, but I used to drink 4x monsters a day, so, probably a little less sensitive.

I always do something relaxing and mindless. Watching a tv show in bed. Reading a book. Reading some blogs or reddit (the whole computer screens mess with your sleeping never bugged me).

Nice cup of warm herbal tea is also nice.

Melatonin. It's not a sleeping pill, it's a vitamin supplement. Being a vitamin, it's also next to impossible to overdose on and harm your body.

You know what's easier than buying and building a brand new PC? Petty larceny!
If you're worried about getting caught, here's a trick: Only steal one part at a time. Plenty of people will call the cops because somebody stole their computer -- nobody calls the cops because they're "pretty sure the dirty-bathrobe guy from next door jacked my heat sink."

That could be the case. And while I don't use f.lux, I do manually set the brightness of a monitor to the lowest possible value that I can still see with. And my room is usually dark, so the brightness is set to a low value already.

However, I've noticed that during daytime I'm a little more tired than during the evening, even if it was just a few hours later. For some reason I'm more energetic when it get's dark, and for example I can jog further than during the day. Could be a placebo effect though, but just something that I've noticed about myself. I don't fear dark, in fact, I like dark time more than I like a bright sunlight.

I don't want to recommend heavy barbiturates but some cheap pills with hops and valerian extract helped me a lot. You can buy them at the grocery store here in germany, so nothing too bad, it's no real medication.

But you shouldn't have to take them all the time, only for those one or two nights a week when you feel you can't sleep.

Beer is also a nice option in those situations. :D

who cares...
