what do you think about 4790k

I think it's a Haswell Refresh i7 processor from Intel. What exactly do you want to know about it?

It's pretty neat for people who are "afraid" of overclocking their CPU. It'll turbo up to 4.4GHz all on its own. You should still get a decent cooler for it though, from what I've heard the stock cooler isn't really all that great and it can get uncomfortably hot.

I read on MMO Champ set up of the month "unless you are doing heavy video rendering, you do not need a 4790 and that money should be spent else where"

they rated the i5 4690k Narwal and Unicorn status soley for gaming. I guess it all depends on what you do with your machine

So my rig is a Narwal/Unicorn despite having a gtx660?

There's really one thing I don't like 4790k, stock cooler is junk, so you do need a decent cooler

your CPU is at least :) don't know about the rest of her guts

I like your signature, all I read was SKYNET IS HERE!

:P

Meh. The mobo seems nice enough although I do plan on upgrading it at some point. Although by then I should just get a new mobo and 4790k (because reasons). It seems more than fast enough. Just wish I could replace the GPU, monitor, and have nothing but 512gb SSD's.

Black Friday is at hand! replace it all then! Since I heard that Intel CPU's are beast for gaming someone also said you can run it on like a 60.00 mobo and be fine. OCing it and all... you should be able to get a nice monitor on sale for like 100 bucks on newegg soon enough!

I'm hopefully going to get a monitor. Only issue is I am not sure what my gtx660 can handle for a 1080p 144z monitor, or a 1440p 75hz monitor. (i'd prefer 4k but yeah....aint rolling in cash over here)

yeah dude i been trolling for a 1440p monitor and they start at like 500... F that noise for now. personally I'd get a new card first and like a 23" LED monitor 2nd. Not sure about Nvidia cards and your model but if you have a i5 4690k, yuo should deffinatly treat that bad boy to a nice GPU first IMO! you can always hook up your PC to a 1080p if you have one in the house for now :)

there are a few good threads on that CPU and how its great for gaming and what not- stuff I never knew till this week. no bottle necking or anything like that they posted!
