Yes, I know this is overkill, but I want a threadripper.

I'm gonna need some fans.

This has to be a troll post but I will play along.

Are you going to use the computer for ANYTHING else than gaming?

No, really it isn't. My friend's son wanted a thread ripper system for gaming.

Why? It's slower at games than modern CPUs 1/10 the price.

If you're doing something that actually needs the cores, let us know, but otherwise this is just a bad idea. Also getting Threadripper 3000 in general isn't a great idea nowadays when Threadripper 7000 is significantly cheaper and faster.

Threadrippers are not gaming CPU's and they are way slower than CPU's 'designed' for gaming.

They are also extremely expensive.

You could get a MUCH faster gaming CPU for 330 dollars, The 7800X3D

You would likely get better gaming performance from a 7800X3D.

Build comments:

There is little point in crippling the CPU giving it just 2 memory channels when it can use 4.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Not overkill but bad. As mentioned by the others, a threadripper isn't made for gaming, and is objectively slower than Ryzen CPUs for said purpose.

3D modeling, rendering, very hard computation work. Basically most things that aren't gaming.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

In your list the Asus ROG STRIX GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4090 is already purchased, is this correct?

I am keeping the case and AIO liquid cooler but there are definitely cheaper options that will do just as well.

This is what I would go with.
