Help Choosing a 1440p Monitor?

Ishenferi

While looking around and dreaming about what kind of computer setup I'll build, I've become stumped (Like I have with most aspects of computer building...) by the sheer amount of options available. Seriously, it's ridiculous.

So here's the barebones. I'm hoping to build a gaming (Duh.) desktop, and my priority is to be able to play games at high settings with blazing fps (Coming from someone used to 23 fps for Skyrim. Oy vey.) I'm not ready, financially, to make the jump to 4k, but 1440p has been sounding pretty awesome, as well as 144Hz. But again, I only really want to make sure I get 60fps minimum, so 100+ is just a bonus if achievable. My priority isn't responsiveness, as I'm not gaming competitively, and likely won't be playing shooters at all. I want something with great color reproduction to enjoy the vividness of Skyrim with mods or Dragon Age Inquisition. Something good for RPGs.

My budget is around $300-$400, but I think I'd be comfortable going as high as $600 for something that warrants the price.

I'd also like a large monitor. Like, stupid big. Like I want to invite people over, and they're just like "Wow, Ish, I'm so sorry that I can only assume you have a small penis, but thank god this monitor more than compensates" (Do bitches love monitors? I'm only guessing.)

So at least around 27", but ideally as much as 32".

Uh. Man, I ramble a lot. I'm sure I'm forgetting something obvious that I should include. But any ideas?

Uniformity and banding is a very common problem with the current 32" 1440p panels. You're better off sitting closer to a 27" monitor because it's a nice compromise without sacrificing a loss in pixel density.

A bigger screen also means more eye tracing/moving your head around. In other words, it's not ideal if you're going to be playing fps games.

This is probably a little better of a read. I don't think many people have the time or patience to go through 60 pages.

It doesn't seem that bad.

All he has to do is read the last 4-5 pages. I had to return two monitors myself.

The problems are wide spread.

Instead of big screen why not go wide screen :)? . That seems more compelling and pleasing

Do you have any suggestions for widescreens? And what makes it more compelling and pleasing?

Something more like this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EDPZ346/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?qid=1415304070&sr=8-5π=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

But since you wanted 1440p, something like this.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IEZGWI2/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?qid=1415303423&sr=8-11π=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

What I mean by pleasing and nice it's that you are able to have an studio like display without it having to be so tall. You get the cinematic and crisp quality of the images.

The only thing is, it's hard to have a high 144hz while the monitor being ips. Unless you aiming for the ROG Swift or some random overclocked Korean monitors.

It's a really nice monitor, I think someone linked the video on the first page of this thread.

Besides the point, you might also want to check out;

I'm hopefully going to going to be upgrading to the BenQ XL2420Z Monitor at Christmas.

1ms Response Time

144hz over display port

1920x1080 (Only downside for yourself) - I suppose I can live with it as the rest of it is great haha.

Check it out: here
