So I had some fun over this weekend. I helped my girlfriend with her increasingly slow laptop, and I thought I would share my story with you. So it started off with the windows logo glitching out like crazy and freezing as it boots up. then it finally boots, and instantly before you can even enter the password, some crappy fake antivirus thing pops up saying "Scanning..........1124 problems found on your PC. Click now to resolve." with some giant fake as hell animated button that says "Speed me up!" on it. so after about 10 minutes I finally figure out how to get around that and type in the password. The second it stops loading after the password is typed in, WeatherBug and Skype pop up simultaneously. Neither of which can be closed out of. Then "PC Optimizer PRO!" pops up and starts "Scanning for viruses" and what do you know, it finds like 26,500 problems. so i close that out and attempt to go to the control panel to start uninstalling all this crap. By now, the desktop finally loads after about 2 full minutes. So I go into the control panel, and it freezes and closes out the control panel.... Then PC Optimizer PRO! pops up again. I ask her "What the hell is optimizer pro?" and she responds with "Isn't that some kind of a transformer or something?" I couldn't stop laughing for like a minute straight. So I eventually got back into control panel and went to the "Uninstall a program" area. after about 5 minutes it finally loads all of the page and there are like at least 100 things that shouldn't be on there. Literally. so I begin uninstalling them one at a time, and every time I ask her what something is I just get an "I dunno" with a shoulder shrug and a giggle. I eventually gott about half way down the page and found a program called "START SAVIN" by "Gratifying Apps"...... I click to remove it, and it asks me to enter capcha... "Are you human?" pops up at the top and starts flashing back and forth in black and purple. So I enter it and eventually it accepts it after like the 5th time cause it's apparently case sensitive though it didn't say so. Then as soon as it finishes uninstalling, it takes me to some website like "Startsavin.now.org" or something like that, and begins trying to re-download itself... So I close out of IE of all things, and continue deleting the rest of the crap. Many more things take me to fake websites for "Antivirus" programs and try to download things. I eventually finish with uninstalling things and go through and delete all the crap under downloads and clean up the rest of the folders too. I go to install chrome browser for her but it's apparently already installed. I open it up and there's about 30 plugins / add on's that are total crap so I deleted all of those and installed addblock, ghostry, and avast antivirus plugin, and then I also bought her the full version and set it up. FINALLY, THE COMPUTER WAS CLEAN! I installed a few other things for her, and then told her "Ask me before downloading anything in the future, and take it easy on the porn, ok?" I got an "Ok" in response and a blushing grin. Just thought I would share this story with you all as I thought it was pretty funny.

Honestly, I've never been bothered by doing these things. I have always just thought it was funny to look at how stupid and fake all this crap is. The crappy names, animations, "Click her to download more ram!", all that crap. Some of this stuff is just so dumb and unbelievable it's like there wasn't even an attempt made to fool you. I actually kinda enjoy it for that reason, unless of course it was for some reason on my own computer... :( But luckily that's not a problem i have :)

I try to clean out my girlfriend's and tell her stop downloading crap as well out of a 250GB drive it has about 45GB free space, I get rid of things and get it at least 70-75GB, then she wants to get a video she already got, I tell her I put it on my 3TB in original format for hers and up-convert it at least to 720p just cuz 1080p takes up more space I'll wait until I get a 6 or 8TB before I even start converting those (plus they start getting glitchy  when you got an old Black and White flick like Paper Moon it's good at 480 ok at 720 and blah at 1080 but that was before I got the 1080 tv so maybe a difference. She'll say I don't have to pay again though then I'll reply they will wonder why your getting the same movie 5 times (maybe more I stopped counting) my kids know if I have a flick they want they know how to stream or download onto their pc or the Xbox 360 from mine, the GF no I don't want to learn anything, you could have been done if you didn't argue and just do it.

Oh I hate people that say I don't want to learn, if you would learn this in a first place you wouldn't have problems with your PC would ya :)

P.s. Don't want to sound like douche, I mean computer basics, not how to build a PC or stuff like that :D

Lol i am the only techie in my house. My dad always needs help with basic stuff on his old laptop and his Galaxy S5. I am the one who built and set up the new family PC ( look at sig for specs)( although my 2 younger sisters never use it since they are hooked on the TV ( primary school kids these days lol)).

Well i always run glary utitlites to clean up junk on my PC and always monitor program activity and run regular antivirus checks. My PC runs like a beast.

Well my laptop ( i gave it to my mum for work : Inspiron 1750), has lots of bloatware on it and boots in like 2.5 minutes wheras i can boot and login on this PC within 30 seconds. it is a pain with dodgy software and i hope it never happens to u again.

Peace :)

I would've just formatted it and reinstalled windows.

true, although i would have run Glary Utilities to check registry and disk before i would have done that. it would have made the PC even faster and more stable.
