I'd prefer not to lug around a brick to all my lectures.... as much as I love mechanical keyboards, I can live with out them on my laptop/craptop

The sad thing is cherry makes flatter laptop switches....coulda used that

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

It's awesome, and also kind of stupid in a good way, but damn, how the hell are you meant to be able to type on something like that? I mean, the keyboard is like a foot away from the screen. That's gonna be a bitch to use.

With a laptop of this size, you put it on a table. I have an alienware m18x, and the thickness of it with the keyboard close to the screen makes it uncomfortable to use on a desk. When I get home I just plug it into my screens and red switch keyboard. Sure, this laptop may not be good for lap use, but I don't think it's meant for it, especially judging by the track pad that's there for pure function purpose.

why not put the hardware where the KB is and the KB where the hardware is? then it would look better... at least more natural

why not put the hardware where the KB is and the KB where the hardware is? then it would look better... at least more natural

Because you couldn't type on it. the lip would be as high as the keys, meaning it would be recessed. imagine typing on a desktop keyboard if you had a book in front of it the height of the spacebar

not necessarily, it could still be like it is. The screen could be raised up a bit and given a bezel that sticks out to close it all off whenever you close the lid

my personal tought on it aren't very releavent since i never tryed mech kb

but i'm a bit afraid that having a kb that close and a screen that far could be a bit uncomfortable, over the fact that there is no palm rest (like Shadow Captain said)

and the space above could have been used for an even more different look, like a custom plate that you can put there, or even a window to see hardware through

 

some people also talked about a 2nd screen there, but could be tricky to make it still openeable to acces hardware + need a screen with good vision angles

A laptop with a window and a black pcb would be awsome!!

I think this is more of a portable desktop rather than an actual laptop. I don't think this was intended to be used on your lap.

I think the numpad thing is a cool idea,since people who game often don't use a touchpad

Agreed, like my M18X, its really designed to be a portable desktop replacement, I wouldnt use my m18x on my lap gaming, but I DO use it on my lap when browsing or watching youtube and stuff, or doing work and there is where this would be awkward

 

With no wrist rest its almost impossible to use away from a desk
