Well I have 14 Cores to my Disposal .... Still a piss in the Sea of 55,000 Cores :lol:

Difference in your computer is able to run almost any OS vs the supercomputer that has to probs run a custom linux distro :P (and probs no GUI)

Well it's technically "just" 4 render farms that have been linked together by a bit of software to operate together, but that in itself is good going.

No match for my 400Mhz Celeron with 64mb ram! It is awesome how quickly these render techniques advance though

That video on Engadget was really good. Very impressive stuff Disney. The movie seems decent as well so maybe I should go see it.

Disney movies are usually pretty good for adults as well, right?

Yeah, they actually are. Disney knows that they get money from adults as well since they're the ones who bring their children and who buys it for family nights so it's fair that they should make it entertaining for all ages.

To manage that cluster and the 400,000-plus computations it processes per day (roughly about 1.1 million computational hours), his team created software called Coda, which treats the four render farms like a single supercomputer. If one or more of those thousands of jobs fails, Coda alerts the appropriate staffers via an iPhone app

 

That's kind of disturbing: You can create a mega render farm of 55k cores total but you staff wants to be contacted via a fucking iphone app?

Even with 55,000 cores, they still only get 24fps.  So give Ubisoft a break  :P

No sorry, it's only being released at 30FPS locked to 792p.  :D
