Will I Am launches smartwatch, no phone required

ShadowCaptain

http://blogs.wsj.com/personal-technology/2014/10/15/will-i-am-launches-puls-a-smartwatch-that-doesnt-need-a-smartphone/

Turns out that wristband Will I Am is seen wearing is a brand new smartwatch named Puls (obviously because miss spelling words gives instant street cred)

Specs are on the hush hush but he reports a snapdragon processor powering it, it works completely independently of a mobile phone and has its own voice assistant to rival siri called Aneeda (I totally thought of "A Need A Poo" because my mental age is 5

Battery life is 5 hours of continuous use, but I assume with 5-10 minute dips during the day with normal use you should get at least a day out of it

Personally its quite interesting, and more competition is always good in the smart watch space, Will I Am, is always seen using it even during tv shows and interviews, so clearly he finds it extremely useful, this might turn out to be good

While I don't like his music that much, I gotta give him credit for being constantly on the forefront of innovation. Smart watches might have been around for a while but every time I see something with W.I.A's backing it's definitely worth stopping and checking out.

But if it doesn't interact with your smartphone what's the point WilldotIdotAmdot?

I guess the point is, we have post PC tech right now, tablets and smartphones, I guess he is forward thinking enough to see a future without smartphones

Picture this..... Augmented reality glasses, and a smartwatch -

Its only inevitable, I am fully ready to embrace future tech like this, to see where it takes us. I LOVE my gaming pc, but if I could fit it into my watch and game on some glasses wherever I go.. I am all for it

He probably wants it to replace your phone.

Exactly, its not hard to imagine using a smart watch as your entire digital life

It could wirelessely connect to a display and use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, it could run VR or augmented reality glasses, if it can be powerful enough it could replace the average joes laptop/desktop and smartphone

Obviously we are not there now, but tech has to start somewhere

No one has though about replacing your phone with a watch yet. This seems interesting. I wonder where it will be in 3 years

Actually, in 2008, I bought a mobile phone touch screen watch in China for £80.... it has a touch screen, bluetooth a camera, dual sim slot, micro SD and a removable battery.....

I LOL'd. Hard. Will.I.Am is a talentless hack who's bandmate Fergi peed her pants at a concert, pretended like nothing happened and kept singing.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.

Erm that is called professionalism.. I was on stage once... and was in a bed on stage... I climbed in, and the bed snapped.....everyone laughed... I stood up, and continued my lines just like I should

Talentless Hack? Sure, thats why he has sports cars, and mansions, and runs music studios, designs cars and tech products....stars in TV shows.... yep I see what you mean.. no talent or skill at all.....

here is a list of songs he produced

I personally think it will go the other way around. People (outside of this community) are starting to appreciate the simple again. I don't think the internet is gonna disappear, not at all, but I seriously think the tech boner is gonna deflate soon. In any case I'll be in my garden growing my own vegetables and having a great time while the rest of you go around endlessly limited at heart by technology.

What exactly was she supposed to do? I'm sure she didn't pee her pants on purpose and it's not like you can just say "Hey, I gotta go change my pants because I pissed all over myself" in the middle of a concert.

Yeah but that is the point of this tech, getting away from the clunky PCs and Phones, a smartwatch and thigns like google glass, are designed to let you get on with life, just life enhanced with technology

Instead of carrying a big heavy laptop, you can just walk around naked with a watch and glasses and still get shit done... its none-intrusive, but always there

Exactly, its professional for her to not stop the show, its just urine, its sterile, and im sure its difficult on stage to just pause the concert to go for a piss

I love traditional watches too, me and my dad have a nice collection

But what about a watch that fused both together? something with traditional movement, and amazing build quality and craftsman ship, that looks beatiful and refined, but has a transparent display that link to your phone for notifications and provides fitness data

Probably I'll wait until this point of time to really consider a smartwatch. Still love my regular watch though

I REALLY hope they don't do that. That would be like putting neon lights on a Miura *shrug*

This kind of thing, but a more attractive watch

99% of the time it looks like a regular watch, but if you get a notification it comes on the display
