EVGA ACX 2.0 0db fanless mode Offical BIOS update.

Raudi_

Its finally here for those of you that have the ACX 2.0 cards.

"New firmware updates are available for select EVGA GeForce GTX 970 graphics cards, this update introduces a new feature for ACX 2.0 cards: 0% fan mode when idle. This feature allows the fan to stop spinning when the card is below 60-67C, drastically reducing acoustic level when the system is idle."

Blatant copy of Asus's feature , trying to get back from the heatpipe 970 cooler fiasco

Dammit EVGA , i already liked asus and msi more than you , don't make me put you in category with effin gigabyte ( don't ask )

The new fan profile is going to heat the crap out of the 970 ACX cause of the faulty heat pipe contacts. It's noisy fans and decent temps albeit higher than the rest or lower noise fans and extremely high temps. EVGA screwed up.

fanless is nice , but don't capacitors and Vrms get much hotter and potentially wear faster?

Too little too late, EVGA.

Already ordered an MSI 980 as it comes with a 0 db mode already and the cooler doesn't look fugly.

The heatpipes are not faulty.

It would not be an issue otherwise it would cost EVGA to much on RMAs.

The ACX 2.0 does not have faulty heat pipes at all. The heat pipes are designed the way they are for a reason.

As you can clearly see in the photos which cooler of the two do you think would be the more effective design ?

Have you seen the cooler for the 970 FTW card? IF not look it up its got the same style cooler as the ACX 1.0 cards. The reason being is that the SC and SSC cards run cool enough to not be worried about needing to beef up the cooler to worry about it.having the offset heatpipe makes about a 3C difference when it made contact. if they wanted to the could have removed it all together.

Look on the EVGA forums about it.

makes about a 3C difference when it made contact.

Yes this is with a very aggressive and noisy fan curve to compensate for the sub par cooling solution. The STRIX cooled 970 is cooler than the ACX and under max load is less noisy than the ACX is at idle fan speed. If they tone down the fan speed the temps are going to rise significantly.

EVGA has even known that the fan curve on the ACX 2.0 cards is very aggressive which is being resolved with the BIOS update. The new feature being added though is the 0db fan mode that Asus first brought to the market. The same style fan curve is going to released on the ACX 2.0 980 cards.and yet it has a beefed up ACX 1.0 heatpipe design with a solid contact plate like ACX 1.0 had.

A software update cannot fix the fact that the cooling solution is poor. It will just make the card run hotter.

A software update cannot fix this design flaw -

See it's only a twin heat pipe cooler effectively so if they tone down the fan speeds then the card will run hotter. How much soon we will soon find out.

Lets wait and see before making any assumptions on temps for the card. Hell Asus was getting mad shit because they were reusing the 780ti cooler on the R9 290x and people were getting throttling with their cards. Every company has their time and right now its EVGA.

The card is already running relatively hotter with an aggressive and noisy fan profile so logic would dictate that reducing the fan speed would take care of the noise issue and make the card running at increasing temperatures.

true I asked on the ocn 970's owner club on temps after someone does the update.
