2016, the Year of the Zettabyte. (1.1* trillion GB)

miyabwah

That'd be a couple trillion floppy disks for those that 'member those. God that only 20 years ago or so.

That's also a lot of data loss in case of failure. The drives I had fail were Seagates. Eh..........................

The drives I had fail are WD its just the luck of the draw. In honesty though just buy 2 or 4 drives and raid them.

Doesn't seem very practical since filling a ZB alone is absurd, let alone using more in raid for backup. Seems like overkill for anything that isn't a data center.

I'd buy one if the cost per zettabyte is < $1. It would be nice to see SSDs transitioning to zettabyte. I wonder what the price is.

Those sure are some pretty numbers. Kinda insane to think we have this much information digitized, really looking forward to how technology progresses.

im not so sure, the rate of data storage requirments for most people is not that high, it mainly the buisness sector thats pushing it

I have a total of 17.25tb(250ssd 1x1tb SSHD and 4x4tb SSHD) in my pc and I'm looking to swap out those 4x4tb SSHDs for 8tb drives just as soon as I can.

I'd love a Zettabyte NAS someday  :-)

Why does everyone seem to think they're making a drive of that size? There's no way it's possible to build a drive 1,100,000,000,000 times the size of their current ones...it simply can't be done right now if in the foreseeable future.

This is saying that much data will be transferred total in 2016, not that they're going to make a drive that big...please read the damn OP next time.

This means 2016 the year of 8k content! :D

If we all have Zettabyte hdd's ( i hope SSD's )  than that will be the lowest size to watch a youtube video in.

I make Rainmeter things and other art :D

Well they read the OP they just don't click the link and read the article the OP actually said nothing about data transfer at all and actually mentioned storage...

Except if you lost all that data it wouldn't seem absurd to have back ups. The higher capacity we go the more data we stand to lose.

Though if we ever travel in space (star trek, star wars, etc) were going to need a HELL of a lot more storage then even a yottabyte (1000 zettabytes)

The picture in the main article is wrong, a Zettabyte = 1000^7  bytes and Exabyte = 1000^6 bytes.

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it
