Anyone still sticking with team red?

Sammael

But part of that isn't the GPU anymore It's partically on everything else in the build. Sorta of like how AMD cpu's have a lower minimum then Intel CPU's. sure they'll have the same avg framerate but something like that can change how the GPU performs for example.

Depends. In an optimal build, where the CPU, RAM, and Storage aren't bottlenecks, the GPU matters. This is why I chose an Intel 3570k. At the time (2ish years ago), it was the best price-performance choice for CPUs when it comes to gaming, and that's why I chose it.

If I'm missing your point, sorry, but yeah. That's all I got to respond with. This is why I chose AMD for GPUs and not CPUs. I don't need more cores. I need more powerful single cores.

AMD still pretty owns everything in the price range lower then a 300$ USD. I'll still recommend AMD all the way from 60$ to 300$

I'm bolting for a 970. like ASAP.

I agree, only with a few exceptions like the 750ti for instance

It really makes no sense to compare a brand new Nvidia card to old AMD stuff.

I'll make the decision when they both have new cards out. Who knows. Maybe AMD will pull ahead.

I am a little worried about what will happen with AMD until we get a 16nm or 14nm. They had serious thermal issues with 28nm compared to Nvidia and they are going to have a tough time competing with Nvidia in terms of performance without very very hot cards.

The Mistress: Case: Corsair 760t   CPU:  Intel Core i7-4790K 4GHz(stock speed at the moment) - GPU: MSI 970 - MOBO: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 - RAM: Crucial Ballistic Sport 1600MHZ CL9 - PSU: Corsair AX760  - STORAGE: 128Gb Samsung EVO SSD/ 1TB WD Blue/Several older WD blacks.

Yep but I see what you mean :) I like both teams but I'm more centered around CUDA and it's technology.

Yeah but only once in awhile will you need to choose somehting like a 750ti :) I usually recommend those for upgrading old systems. or CUDA (which at FP can be better then GK104)

GCN 3.0 has probably been in development since 2013 atleast. But as of GCN1.1 4224 stream processors will pull a lot more power then 3200 Cuda cores on Rumored GM200 (which should performance the same). should be in Carrizo which should have 4 CPU + 512 Stream processors in under 65watts. That'll be the main reason to strongly push scaling and Power effiency in the next generation GCN.

How was he screwed? By not spending $2000 and then crying a month or 2 later when the 780 was released?

I might wait for Nvidia to release a card that isn't mid range.

970/980 (GM204) = Baby Maxwell.

390X, anyone heard any rumors. I have no idea when it is even meant to come out. This year? Next Year? IDK?

The 970/980 prices are ridiculous here but by the time i need and can afford a new GPU the 290 might not be available so i dont know what ill do

Grab some on Amazon mate.

I'm just happy that SLI 760s crushes everything and gives me FPS to spare.

Oh no he was screwed cause he bought 2 Titans a month later and had to sell the 7970s on ebay and lost an extra small fortune because the 780s were released causing 7970s price to drop even further ... And then the bitcoin mining craze kicked in xD  and now his titans are overheating worst than the 7970s but I didn't feel like telling the whole story

I would never say "Nvidia is best" because I know that AMD has a good arguments.

I just have always had Nvidia, liked the color green, and my 760s are better than I hoped.

I could be a Sony Fanboy, but I know that most Sony products have a flaw. I'm not ignorant.

I have a 290 vapor-x so there isn't really any need or any compelling upgrade path for me at the moment, for a few years.

So ya sticking with team red.

Nothing unusual has happened.

Nvidia launched their new generation GPU before AMD.

AMD will come back with their new gen

and the cycle continues..

I've always held a bit of fanboyism for AMD as they have great price/performance cards and always seem like the underdog (who doesn't want to support the underdog) competing against both Nvidia and Intel. However I'll be swapping over this generation because I'm on a MSI 6870 and I just can't wait anymore for AMDs offering, plus the GTX 970 looks extremely tempting with future SLI if needed.

You can buy a couple of the GTX 970 and 980 variants on amazon.com, you just need to tick AmazonGlobal Eligible. I'm going to be ordering my GTX 970 or 980 (still weighing up price/performance and SLI) in a week or so cause it's considerably cheaper then buying from a store locally in AUS.

My 290 is more than adequate for the foreseeable future. Worst case scenario, I get another 290 and I'm good for another 3+ years.

Edit: IMHO, all the 970 and 980 are just 700 series card at the price-point the 700 series should have launched at. I don't care about power consumption, this is a desktop, not a laptop on a battery. If we saw killer performance, then I'd care but, that's not the case. In fact, I like power hungry cards because they keep my room warm in the cold months which for me is about 8.5 months a year. Thanks but no thanks nvidia.

So far I have had a Ati 4890, GTX470, GTX580  and GTX 670. TBH I think I should have gotten a 7970 over the 670 but it was much of the same. I would have liked to do a bit of mining but I do like those custom resolutions that Nvidia supports. What GPU will I get next? Dunno. My 670 is still does me fine so I won't be upgrading for another generation (maybe two). Will have to wait to see who has what at the time.

Umm... Yeah... I guess I'm stuck with the red team for a few years...

I'm more excited on midrange and low-end releases so it's highly unlikely that I'll be switching sides in the near future...
