Go with 2x8... gives you room for expansion in the future.

I don't see why one would go 4x4. Unless it is ridiculously cheaper, I wouldn't.

Everywhere I look for information it's common sense that more modules would not be benefitial. They might be slightly slower or faster in some cases, but never significantly faster/slower. Cheapest all the way.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k | CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 | Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z97 MARK 1 | Memory: Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB 1866MHz | GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 4GB Windforce

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO | PSU: CM Silent Pro 720W | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe | Headset: Corsair Vengeance 2100 | Keyboard: Logitech G710+ | Mouse: Razer DeathAdder Chroma

If it were me I would get 2x8 because even if you say that you're not going to upgrade now you might change your mind or usage a year or two down the road. I made this mistake myself thinking 16gb would be enough well now I'm constantly at 80%+ usage and wishing I could easily toss in another 2 sticks.

Go with 2*8GB

Always go for the least amount of DIMM's for the same capacity, it leaves the possibility for an upgrade
