Future Proofing Phones

In reference to LTT's video reacting to hot takes a year ago, one of the points mentioned by Linus was that buying mid range products and upgrading 3 years down the line would give a better experience overall compared to future proofing with latest and greatest.

I wonder if this concept applies to phones as well?

Say if I buy a midrange phone and replace it 3 years down the road being better than getting a flagship and expect it to last 5-6 years.

It's all about software updates and, imo, battery replacability.

No updates? I regard it as a dead phone. It's why I will only pick Pixel and iPhone.

Yeah while I do understand that. Battery replacing isn't as accessable to me from my region due to costs. So it's usually either new phone or old phone.

Hence why I wonder about my options

then a phone with high capacity battery,

5000mAh is pretty decent for several days of phone work on a healthy battery, maybe even week if the phone use is minimal
