7870 or 7950?

SpamBrie

I am building a mid range gaming rig for games such as GTA and Fallout.

The  MSI AMD R7950 3GB Twin Frozer is currently on Amazon for £152.99

And the MSI AMD Radeon 7870 HD 1050MHz 2GB PCI-E 3.0 HDMI Twin Frozr is cheapest at Dabs.com for £180.64

Looking at benchmarks the 7950 usually seems to be more powerful, is this true or not?

Which one should I buy?

Thank You

The 7950 is definitely better than the 7870 and with that price, wow!

Good enough.

The 7950 can be overclocked to be faster than a 7970 and is a high end card. And at that price, I would get 2!!

I just looke at the picture on Amazon and it says 650Ti but I contacted Amazon and they will look into it for me.

I have bought it I just hope that Amazon will honour it. The worse that can happen is that I get a refund and the best would be to actually get the graphics card.

Yes, the 7950 is faster than a 7870, but it is only one level higher on Tom's heirarchy chard. That is not so much difference that you would notice it outside of a synthetic benchmark.
If you have the funds go ahead and buy the 7950, otherwise you will always wonder if you should have.
It is the same rationale for those picking a GTX680 vs. a GTX670.

7950 cards like the one you suggested above and HIS IceQ X2 7950 can be overclocked to beat the reference 7970 card so I would get the 7950 because it has the better bang for the buck.
