GTX 980 to not beat 780 Ti? Humm...

Babypowder

Found this.
Nothing to surprising. Seems like nVidia will now release the 980 to beat the 780 and later
on will give us the 980 Ti? Hopefully *crosses fingers including toes"

Why has nobody acknowledged that there may be a 980 Ti?

because they don't need one.

thank you for pointing that out.

yeah but thats Gk110. They never released full Gk110 with the titan or 780 so when the 290x came out they just threw that out because they had it. with maxwell I doubt they'd do the same.

Im not really taking that article seriously because they referred to Cuda cores as stream processors. xD

You guys should chill until actual benchmarks come out. This was all speculation by that guy, except of course from what he already knows - the GTX 980 is faster than the GTX 780. He didn't say if it was slower than the GTX 780Ti but neither did he say it was faster :)

But if there's no new improvement on architecture or new technologies I'll be getting a GTX 770, it's great with that price cut ongoing. But please Nvidia! make the GTX 960 fastaaaa

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

Aye. I was just wondering why get the 900 series, if you can get the 780Ti.
If it does end up being like how they are mentioning.
Just like how
@Askew said, Speculations.

They couldn't even get details about the 780 right in that article, claiming it was GK104 amd had a 256-bit bus.

I can't believe a single word of that article

It's going to be 35% faster than the 780. No way is 780Ti 35% faster than the 780. Finito.

Eeh, it's nvidia. Time will tell

nVidia (and. to a lesser extent, AMD) always sandbag initial releases a bit, so that they can release a brand new OMG IT IS SO POWERFUL! graphics card if the competition does something unexpected. See the half dozen variations of GK110 which got released in the last year or so, each with a couple of extra cores enabled, an additional feature like turning on the double-precision unit, a bit more memory or a higher clock speed.

So yes, there will be a GTX 980ti. There'll probably be a new "Titan" too; maybe they'll call it the "Colossus" or something like that.

If 980 is slower then 780 Ti what's the big deal and why is everyone talking about it.... it's only an issue if 980 Ti is slower then 780 Ti

Of course 980 Ti will be faster than 780 Ti but still it's only natural for people to expect the next generation high end card from Nvidia to beat their previous card even if it isn't a Ti card.

Your pretty off on your numbers:

580 to 680 was 16% increase:

680 to 780 was 16% increase:

perfrel.gif

980 only has to be 16% faster than a 780 Ti not a 780 to follow the nVidia pattern of new generation cards (Since 780 Ti is their fastest card right now). Saying it has been 35% is way too generous. It's 15-20% improvements at most.

Something to remember is that Maxwell might not be purely about performance. The card will most likely be way more efficient the the current keplers and the lower tdp cpuld mean better overclocking (mainly on air)
