So, about 3 hours ago (~6:30PM GMT) i ordered a new pair of headphones as my current ones really lack any bass. I then went to track my order only to discover after 2 hours it's status change to "Delivered", lol wut? I then queried the tracking number and i got shown the details:

I then went on their live chat to ask why i had got the wrong tracking number, this is the transcript:

10:22 PM BST Sabarinathan(Amazon): Thank you for choosing Amazon.co.uk. Chat Support

You are now chatting with Sabarinathan. May I know your name please?
10:23 PM BST Ben Ward: Ben
10:23 PM BST Sabarinathan(Amazon): Hello Ben.
I apologize for any inconvenience caused in this issue.

I will definitely help you in this issue.
10:25 PM BST Sabarinathan(Amazon): I have checked our records and I can confirm that the carrier has wrongly updated the tracking for the item. In this case,m I will now contact the carrier and request them to update the tracking correctly.
Rest assured that you will receive thew order tomorrow without fail.
10:26 PM BST Ben Ward: Ok
10:26 PM BST Sabarinathan(Amazon): Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Is there anything else I can do for you today?
10:26 PM BST Ben Ward: When should i receive the correct tracking number?
10:27 PM BST Sabarinathan(Amazon): Can you give me the tracking number you have?
10:27 PM BST Ben Ward: - snip -
10:28 PM BST Sabarinathan(Amazon): Thanks, Ben.
I would like to inform you that the tracking number is correct but the tracking information for the number is wrongly updated and it will be correctly updated soon.

10:29 PM BST Ben Ward: Thats it thanks

The bit that baffled me was that she said:

10:28 PM BST Sabarinathan(Amazon): Thanks, Ben.
I would like to inform you that the tracking number is correct but the tracking information for the number is wrongly updated and it will be correctly updated soon.

I personally think that is bollocks. Anyone else had this problem? Did you order show up ok? or what are your thoughts?

Well they can use the same tracking number because it should be unique to your package. I guess the courier side of it messed something up when they received the number and mistook it as a different package.

It doesn't even have anything to do with Amazon...

The seller marked it incorrectly, chill.

yea, tracking numbers are reused, but seems the last use of it wasnt changed

I know there was no intentional wrong-doing but it just seems like someone is bit incompetent.

i just thought I should highlight that red flag.

They have a 30-day money back, so if they suck i'll send em back.  :D

Nothing amazon did.

This is just a carrier mistake. A number got changed somewhere and shows different.

A lot of the time numbers get recycled and can show an older delivery.

Surely something like this should be picked up by Amazon's systems? Delivered on the same day it was shipped should be enough.  :D

Just so it can put a tag on the tracking stating that it's not updated with your package details and may show old data.

se had this problem? Did you order show up ok? or what are your thoughts?

I'm going through a bit of a fuss with Amazon myself. I ordered some stuff from them, got em, all was good but it also came with a trail for Amazon Prime. I tried it but most of the video's weren't playing in my area anyway so I just stopped using it. Now I get a notification that they charged me $99 for Amazon Prime but never agreed to anything like that. Maybe somebody knows what to do about this?

You should make a separate thread to get some suggestions.

Really doesn't have anything to do with Amazon.

Tracking numbers are automatically generated and assigned to the order. There are times where the tracking numbers have been used before, hence why it shows November of last year. Once the carrier actually updates the order, it will change to your item and your information.

This is done to keep tracking numbers uniform;

12345ABCDFG vs 1234567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMOPQRSTUVWXYZ

These numbers also consist of small codes for sorting/shipping to make it easier. Bigger numbers make it a messy process.

You would think that they would reset it before putting it back into use?
