Why am I using so much RAM?

Go to solution Solved by NumbingCrayon,

Actually after restarting my pc a few times the usage went back down to %15 at idle. Weird.

I have 8gb of ram. I have NEVER run into any problems with filling it, but now when I am idleing I am using 80% of it. And firefox is at the top of the list with 250mb. I cleaned out my registry and everything. It gets too the point where I lag in BF4 because I am using to much RAM. I recently just switched to Firefox from Chrome could that be it? I did also restart my PC and empty my history. Can someone help?

How much RAM? Can we get a screen capture of Task Manager memory usage tab?

I knew that Chrome uses a ton of memory, didn't know about Firefox...

Please post a screenshot of task manager, so that we can see all the processes. Firefox doesn't use 6-7GB of memory by itself :D

250mb is not a lot. and if that is at the top of the list then something is obviously wrong.

Show us a screenshot of task manager.

Also have you tried turning your PC off and on again?

ram is just soo tasty these days, programs just eat it up.. just as my 16gigs... 50% or more is taken nearly 100% of the time.. wierd thing is, its about the same even when and when not gaming, im guessing its windows saving things for later if needed and just keeps it there just in case and lets it go as soon as something else needs it.

@NumbingCrayon

This is normal. I have 8GB and with Chrome open with 5-10 tabs and playing a game like BF4 at the same time I frequently run into the Low Memory warning (85% of RAM full)

I have one tab and that is the only other thing running on my pc

You have a problem... Steam and two chat windows and 3 tabs in Firefox (this thread, Textnow, and the Gmail landing page).

Dude, from the screenshot you posted it's clear that you are using no more than 1.3 gigs of RAM. Since that's 41% load it means your system is recognising only ~3.5 gigs of RAM, so either you are running a 32 bit Windows or one of your RAM sticks isn't installed properly. If you are running a 64bit Windows you should remove both RAM sticks and insert them again. If you are still having the same issue, your motherboard may be faulty.
