I couldn't even tell difference until you pointed it out, that's actually really cool.

Currently, Skyrim with mods holds as my favorite. I haven't played very many other graphically intensive games in awhile.

I mean, I have a GTX 780 and I main Team Fortress 2 lol.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Unless you look at the shitty DoF and the 2011 lighting.

The DoF and lighting gave it away immediately.

star citizen, can't belive nobody has brought them up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG-82TakEqk

and 4K for full effect, also it may not be photorelistic because is sci fi stuff, but it does indeed has the best graphics

That's a CG trailer, and then it looks shitty let alone photorealism.

its not CG, that the fidelity the want in the game, just search it, each video they release the game gets better, also i said it may not be photorealistic, but not because of the visuals, because is space sci fi

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

i use to have the second best link in the world here, but it died ;_; its a 404 now but it will always be here

Of course because of the visuals, a sci-fi game also can look photorealistic, especially in regards to materials, lighting and faces. Star Citizen suffers from some typical problems: no advanced lighting (realtime GI) and uncanny valley, both of which are also present in Crysis 3.

Just because similar spacecrafts don't exist doesn't mean it can't look photorealistic.

  • 1 year later...

The biggest problem right now for me is lighting.  Because there's a limit to how bright a pixel can be,  most games are going for a cinematic/photographic look, rather than a realistic look. For example, it's hard to look at headlights in RL because of how bright they are, but that can't be reproduced on a monitor, so a glare effect like you'd see on a camera lense is used instead.

HDR is going to be the next step in realism, and I'm excited.

Thread from 2014 back from the dead. lol. xD

Still relevant none-the-less. ;)

Some may smack me for this, but AC Syndicate has impressed me numerous time. There have been many times where the textures and lighting have fooled my eyes into the uncanny valley where it almost looked like a photo.

Vanishing of Ethan Carter - especially with the redux version that now has smooth frame rates and runs like butter. One of the best realistic-looking games I've ever seen. PCars is up there.

Can't deny, it is an awesome looking game. Just kinda sad it's so lacking for content/substance.
