let's give a rank number to all this OS (from 1 to 10)

Linux Mint 17 is a Windows 7-ish clone. A Windows 7-only friend of mine used his Windows 7 reflexes (finding menus and such) on Linux Mint 17. Found all he needed within seconds, just like on Windows 7. So,

Linux Mint 17 - 9.8/10

Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad T61 Widescreen 15.4" 1680x1050
Intel Core2Duo T8300 2.4GHz | 3GB DDR2 from Hynix | SATA II Patched bios (Middleton) | Samsung EVO 850
Arch Linux | Linux 4.3.X x86_64

Linux Mint - 7/10 - Is good but sometimes lacking features IMO

Windows 8 - 5/10 - Sucks...

Windows 8.1 - 9/10 much better than 8 haven't had a single problem with it yet.

Chrome OS - 7/10 - great for people who just want to web surf and type a couple of documents.

Ubuntu - 9/10 - lots of custumizability and easy to use at the same time

Gaming Rig - Excalibur - CPU: i5 6600k @ 4.1GHz, CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo, Mobo: MSI Gaming M3 RAM: 16GB Corsair @2400MHz, GPU: EVGA 1060, Case: NZXT Phantom Full Tower (Red)

My Virtualization Server - Dell R710: 2x X5570s @ 2.93GHz with 32GB DDR3 RAM [Web Server, OSX, Plex, Reverse Proxy]

windows 7 = 8/10

As my main driver it works great but it feels like its missing something.

OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) 7/10

As its still in beta its hard to use it to its full potential but its very clean and much nicer to use then the last operating system.

Here's what I've used that I can remember.

Windows 7 - 9/10

Generally good. Bloated in terms of storage and memory usage. Control panel is a mess and it lacks extensive customization.

Ubuntu 14.04 - 6/10

I like the taskbar but the launcher menu is poorly designed (I think it included Amazon search?). Customization is very limited from what I remember.

Kubuntu 14.04 - 9/10

Excellent design, lacks a few features such as Android device support IIRC. Ridiculous amount of customization options.

Mint 16 - 7/10

Very good design but somewhat unstable. I've heard v17 is better but haven't spent much time with it.

It's been too long since I've used XP to comment on it. I've tried other Ubuntu variants and Manjaro but not extensively. They all seemed to have some stability issues although it's very likely that's because I was booting from a USB drive.

let's give a rank number to all this OS (from 1 to 10) if you test any of them (ordered by the power)

Debian 7 - 5/10 (is awesome, but is a pure Linux also)

Lubuntu 14.04 - 6/10 (perfect for replace the old xp and is new)

XP (Windows 5) - 4/10

Xubuntu 14.04 - 7/10

Vista (Windows 6) - 5/10

Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 - 8/10

Windows 7 - 10/10

Ubuntu 14.04 - 9/10

Windows 8 - (i don't have tested it yet)

do i miss one on the list ? feel free to add it

in case you wonder (at this time) i am using "Ubuntu Gnome" (and i love it)

and i don't plan replace it  B)

So you are saying if Windows 7 is a 10/10 there is absolutely no flaws on it? Implying that Home Premium, Ultimate, Professional and Enterprise are worse than just plain Windows 7 for a larger sum of money?

Lubuntu 14.04 - Didn't use it

Windows XP - 10/10 Big part of my childhood

Xubuntu 14.04 - Didn't use it

Windows Vista - Not nearly as bad as people say it is... but it still sucks. 3/10

Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 - Didn't use it

Windows 7 - 9/10 Great

Ubuntu 14.04 - Awesome! Great UI, pretty simple to use, and it actually works ok on, I believe, an AMD Athlon XP 2000+.

Windows 8 - Nice try but I think that Microsoft should have just called it "Windows Phone for PC". At least in had better optimizations. 7/10

I'm just curious, why are so many people rating XP so low? :S Imo it was one of the best OS' windows made.

How can you even rate Vista equal to, or higher than XP? -.-

Ubuntu 14,4: 10/10.  Works perfectly for me. Lots of guides on how to do things

Fedora (Heisenbug): 9/10. Good for productivity and schoolwork. Kept my G62 laptop alive for as long as it could. Yum commands <3

Elementary OS: 8/10. Nice ui and it's pretty snappy

Mint KDE: 7/10. Easy to use. Snappy. Nice

Windows 2000: 6/10. Worked. .exe files

Windows XP: 5/10. Great OS for the time .exe files

Windows 7: 4/10. .exe files and game support. alright UI

Windows 8+8.1: 2/10. Nice user experience (A bit clunky with metro though) Doesn't work well on my system

Debian 7 - Never used

Lubuntu 14.04 - Never used

XP (Windows 5) - 10/10 (Great OS, used it for many many years.)

Xubuntu 14.04 - Never used

Vista (Windows 6) - 5/10 (I found it was a bit too secure, alot of things needed admin permissions and such. It was also sluggish and had bugs)

Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 - Never used

Windows 7 - 6/10 (If 7 didnt have such poor optimization and performance, id give it a 8 or 9 out of 10. I found windows 7 VERY sluggish, and I even switched back to XP because XP was faster.)

Ubuntu 14.04 - 6/10 (dont care for the user interface)

Windows 8 - 10/10 (fixed all the issues with 7, metro is useful for checking email, other than that I ignore it)

Linux Mint - 9/10 (Simmilar to Windows, favourite linux distro.)

Windows XP 8/10

It was a smooth experience at the time. But compared to the OS of today it looks like shit and I'm a superficial phoney.

Windows Vista 5/10

It looked very good at the time, Shame about all those problems.

Windows 7 10/10

Perfect. Mostly because of the good looks and my now multiple years of familiarity.

Windows 8 ?/10

It is too alien to me. But I can't detract from an OS without any familiarity of use at all so I'm leaving it undecided.

All the others ?/10

Can't comment, haven't tried them.

I'll just throw this on

Fedora 8/10. Fast. Intuitive, I love it. But a bit tablety recently. Completely fixed if you throw a different DE, such as Cinnamon, on it. With Cinnamon, and not for gaming purposes, Fedora is a 9/10 imo.

oh, XP (Windows 5) was the king on is time, but "this days" we can not compare it with any new OS (Linux or Windows)

the difference is too much (keep in mind that even wide monitors or HDMI does not exist in his time)

my own Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 (64bits) wipe the floor with him this days (best distro i see so far, and is free)

but yeah, he was the king on his time (i still wonder which was Windows 4)
