Five Four Club Review

I thought I'd take a few minutes to share my experience using Five Four Club's personal shopping and clothes delivery service.

If you watch LTT videos and The Wan Show then you're familiar with what Five Four does. For $60/mo they send you $120 dollars worth of clothes (MSRP).

When Linus was doing the 4th of July promotion for $20 off the first month of membership I decided to try Five Four. I felt pretty good, because it seemed like a really great deal and it was an opportunity to support Linus and his team. The $ for $ amount of what was being paid and what was being promised was a great deal in savings (about 60%). Because I can't be bothered to buy new clothes often enough, and I always spend hours deal hunting and trying things on when I DO clothes shop, the thought of skipping all the hubbub was also very attractive. But, would I sign up for such a service if it wasn't supporting Linus, Slick, and the rest of the team, no most likely not.

Anyway, I signed up, chose my preferences out of a 10 or so choices, and hoped for the best. With the promo code, it was $43.60 all together. I would like to mention here that after about a week I checked the FedEx tracking info, and it was listed as 3lb. This worried me a bit, I was certainly hoping it was an error, or clothes are much lighter than I thought. About two weeks later I received my first package. It contained 2 t-shirts and a pair of sweat shorts.

Pictures are below.

All in all, I feel I got a bit more than what I actually payed for. I recieved I'd say, $50 - $60 worth of clothes for $40. But, I can't bring myself to believe these clothes are worth $120. Though not particularly my personal style, (I opted for the t-shirt and jeans style, no graphics, modern, modest) they do look nice and clean. The clothes don't seem to be very high quality nor durable, but they looks decently styled and neatly crafted.

I really don't think I'll continue this service. I mean maybe they sent me less clothes because I used a promo, or maybe the first box is smaller. But, ultimately, I thought Five Four would send me either more clothes, or higher quality clothes to back up their $120 MSRP claim, and I feel they didn't deliver.

edit* I'll just buy a shirt or hoodie or something directly from them, and use their product links to support LMG in the future.

The good news? I get to model some new clothes for my girlfriend, and I don't feel ripped off. The bad news, it didn't turn out to be the deal I was hoping for.

Seems reasonable, maybe stick it out another month or two to get a variety of stuff?  It seems hard to judge a service off one order on something like clothes.

Thanks for sharing this!

I do think they should have included more clothes, at least boxers and socks.

Maybe email them with some feedback and ask, it's summer so they might lessen their packages on this season. Maybe next month could be a lot better :)

Seriously?  50 dollars for a pair of shorts? Screw that.  I'll go to walmart or target and get a pair for 10-15.  Scratch that, I'll ask my wife to just go buy me clothes.

Welcome to the world of brand clothes ;) 50 dollar clothes was the norm when i was in the US and in Norway that would actually be rather cheap

Anyway: If they are low quality they are just not worth it either way.

Sucks that they're not very high quality but I'll be honest, those are very nice looking clothes :P

I'd probably use this and the shaver's club if I lived in the US cause I find it hard to buy anything that isn't pop culture t-shirts.

That's funny I joined at the same time you did and I got the exact same items, just different colors lol.

I would have to agree with what was said above. I'm gonna hold out for one more month just to see what comes next but yeah so far it's not really been my style.

I've gotten a few months worth of orders from Five Four.  I'm happy with what I got for the most part, for me it's worth it.  The money seems reasonable for me, then again I don't shop at Walmart.

  • 2 weeks later...

I posted this in another thread, but it definitely belongs here instead.

I've been using five four for 4 months now.

First 2 months went along fine, the prices the clothes are marked at does add up to be $120+. The last order I got added up to $137 actually.

Months 3 and 4 have been a bit shaky. Month 3, they sent me a REALLY NICE blue dress shirt that was awesome...only problem was there was a 3in long bleach stain running down the back of it. Sent an email to the support department and they rushed out a "replacement" shirt to me. The shirt is identical except in color, got me on a technicality lol. Either way, the replacement didn't cost me a dime, and I wasn't required to mail the stained shirt back into them. All they needed was a pic of the stain, and the shirts tag.

Month 4 was a mess though. My card was charged and an order was created for me, but it was never actually sent over to fedex to be delivered to me. I waited about 2 weeks for the package to show (My fedex account auto-notifies me when a package is sent to my address. In this case they created a label, but never dropped the package for pickup) I called them up this time cause I didn't want to wait 24 hours for an email response. I was on the phone for 10 minutes, probably less, and they created a similar order for me and shipped it out that same day.

The customer service has been amazing! Those 2 mishaps aside, I've also been VERY happy with the clothing items they are sending to me. I especially like it when they send me something I normally would have never picked out for myself. 2 or 3 items have fallen into this category so far with everything being girlfriend approved  ;)

I also just wanted to post a bit of an update on the above

The package mentioned above showed up today, and in it are my first pair of jeans they have sent me. They're very stylish and look really nice...except they don't fit!!! So the first thing I did was go check my style profile to make sure I specified the correct size and I couldn't find the inseam measurement anywhere. The style profile only had a waist measurement.  I'm a short guy, 5'8", with most of the height coming from my torso. As such I have an odd pants size of 30x30 or 31x30 depending on the styling. I could have sworn when I filled out my style profile at five four that I specified 31x30's, at least that way if the waist is a big big I can just tighten my belt another notch and be okay.

Confused and highly annoyed with the number of problems that cropped up one after another, I called their customer support hotline. It turns out five four stock their pants like this [30-33]x32 and [34+]x34. While I understand they do this to minimize stock from odd sizes, as a customer I wasn't' very satisfied.  Especially since the rep recommended I take the pants to my local dry cleaner to have them altered. I knew I could do that, but the idea of getting clothes in the mail is that they will fit when I get them lol

At this point, I figured I would go for the hail mary. I explained all of the problems that had happened to me in the past month alone. Told him that as a customer it didn't make me happy knowing that I would need to have every single pair of pants they send me altered. Then I politely asked the rep if there was anything he could do for me to make me feel better.  He agreed that the solution wasn't a very optimal one and then offered to refund my last months purchase.  Which was enough to make me happy and continue using their service.

I just want to emphasize that I was polite and respectful the entire time. I used to work in a call center and 9/10 times if the customer is polite and respectful I would be much more inclined to go above and beyond to make them happy. There is no rule that states he HAS to give me any refund, partial or not.

Anyways, the entire conversation lasted less than 10 minutes. It's amazing how they're able to be so productive while keeping me happy.

So far my experience with five four has been positive, and I am very happy that they are a sponsor of @LinusTech. Too many times someone will recommend a product/service simply because they were paid money to.

Not bad... I spend like 30-50$ dollars on jeans. usually 30 on a shirt. this should be interesting if I get the service.

Thanks for the review. The prices seem a little high but not outrageous. I think I might give it a try at some point.
