Anyone notice all the forums generalizations ?

NOT A INSULT TO ANYONE!

I noticed there are a lot of things that people automatically think is always right or the only way to go and what not.

Cases:corsair

Fans:noctua

RAM:Domitnator platinums

Headsets:Vengeance 2000

Keyboard:ducky

Mice: Corsair or razer

Phones: HTC one

Graphics cards: ASUS or MSI

PSU: corsair

SSD: corsair

Watercooling (closed loop): corsair

I am just as guilty of doing these as other people and i know its because these are good brands but i think its funny that if you have been here long enough you know what people are gonna say.

Post any brand you notice people recommend a lot.

One of the generalizations that kills me is AMD cards have micro stuttering. I seriously seen a guy tell another guy to not get a single card AMD setup because of micro stuttering and I just, I just don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Well, these are also all the popular products right now.  Things that get mentioned a lot end up continuing to get mentioned simply because of it being on the forefront of people's minds when the topic comes up.  That's not to say that they are not great products, they just get a lot of face time.  Plus we are on Linus' forums, and there are a couple items on that list that he obviously favours over others, and I would sometimes say he borders on "fanboy" of a couple products.  This isn't a bad thing, considering how well he covers other things as well.  But taking that into account, a lot of people here follow him almost religiously and therefore are going to have some of the same opinions and bias toward certain products.

Just to point out, for the GPU you listed the ONLY viable options for a high end gaming PC anyway lol.  Of course people are going to be biased toward either AMD or Nvidia, it's all there is.

BTW, Fractal Design cases rock, just putting that out there ;)

i don't know why your hardware selection you recommend is that small. But some things like Corsair closed loop cooler are just the best...the same with Noctua fans. The rest is just you.. Who recommends dominator ram?! money to burn?

I also don't back Corsair and Razer mice, since I prefer SteelSeries mice.

All these manufactures make to the top because of high quality, high performing, and aesthetically pleasing products.

No generalisation, just good recommendations.

Noctua = yuck.  I don't care how they work, there is something to be said about aesthetics  they only make their stuff butt ugly because they are actively trying to create fanboys.

I love my corsair PSU, first time in a while that I've had a PSU with 0 problems.

I actually really like the Logitech mice.  One thing I love about Logitech is that is what they do, they make peripherals, so when they do it they do it well (usually)

Did I mention that Fractal Design cases are amazing?

Ok my bias against razer may be a little unwarranted. I've had a lachesis (died within a week) and an orochi (left mouse stopped working). Maybe I've just had a bad experience. They just feel very plasticky....

Noctua fans do work well (I had 2 NF-F12s before they died on me)

the worst offender is the vengeance 2000....I absolutely HATE that thing. Any low-mid range pair of sennheisers/behringers etc. will completely blow it out of the water. Add a modmic to the setup and you have a better "gaming" headset than any other gaming headset out there.

I've yet to see a dyed noctua fan that looks good.  And feel free to link some for me, because that would give me some hope, I honestly haven't looked very hard.  As for the being silly about them actively trying to create fanboys, it's a pretty popular emerging market strategy.  Think about it, when you create a reason to maintain exclusivity in use, it creates mass appeal.  They have some of the best (possibly the absolute best) performing fans on the market, but they make them ugly as hell?  There is either some sort of strategy there or they are completely obtuse to the enthusiasts need to create themed PCs.  Forcing a fan to become the centerpiece of a build simply because it wont match just about any build out there (aside from some VERY well designed desert and camo designs).

The brand favoritism can be misleading sometimes.  For example, Corsair is a favorite for PSUs, but Corsair doesn't actually manufacture any PSUs.  They're rebranded Seasonics.  There are only a handful of actual PSU manufacturers, Seasonic being one of them.

Same thing with closed loop coolers, they're pretty much all by Asetek or CoolIT (with some exceptions, like Cooler Master's coolers or the Swiftech H220).

So in these departments Corsair isn't really any better than anyone else haha.

And Corsair SSDs being favorites?  Hardly, I'd say Samsung is a fan favorite for SSDs right now.

As for the other components, well, I feel like these companies earn their way to the top.  I mean, for a lot of components I'm sure other brands are just as good (I mean, G-Skill RAM is wonderful, MSi, Gigabyte, ASRock all make great mobos, and cases are all over the place, NZXT, Cooler Master, Fractal, BitFenix, the list goes on).  But the community tends to choose great, reliable products, which I'm happy about.
