Posted July 6, 2014 Author Two water cooled R9 290s for web brows- wait I mean for gaming and some OpenCL. Though AMD's OpenCL compiler still has some way to go. Luckily there's been some rumors of improvements to that in the future. Yeah, but I've heard the same for Nvidia, one of the reasons people buy AMD over Nvidia besides great price to performance, is because of Open CL. Well, I originally bought a GT 640 as a temporary card but when I played the Titanfall Beta I realized a mere GT 640 was too bad so I bought another temp card.. a gtx 580 which was also doing not so good + it was really noisy. So I decided to not bother with Maxwell and go 290x but it was defective -,- so then I just went gtx 770. If only there wasn't any delay in the 20 nm cards.. I think you're forgetting more transistors can be added to die and since it will consume less power and output less heat the addition of transistors shouldn't be a problem. Also, the less heat and power = better overclockability I'd assume but Nvidia will probably have a 200-225w tdp for the highest end card assuming it's the first true gen of maxwell which i doubt it will be then it'll be 250w most likely.
