The Most Ambitious Artificial Intelligence Project In The World Has Been Operating In Near Secrecy For 30 Years

snowComet

Business Insider had post an interview with the CEO of CyCorp, Doug Lenat, who had been working with his partners on AI for nearly 30 yrs, talked about their AI "Cyc", how does it operate, how different it is from other AI like Siri or Watson, and its application, like teach sixth graders math. Very impressive!

Is Siri even AI? I thought it was just a voice recognition tool that searches for things.

"It will amplify human intelligence."

How? Humans have to code it. You could code it to learn faster but that doesn't make it more intelligent if its only learning from what humans put out there.

I just find this to be a major technological marvel. The ability to teach a robot and make it understand, make inferences, then take a course of action is just amazing

because it accelerates our thought process. it may be less intelegent than us, but humans are "designed" to work better in groups. and it translates to thinking. if you have an AI helping you think, you will be much faster at it

It can kick your ass in the multiplayer.

If they program it well, you can code it in such a way the thinking power of it is the same as a handful of human brains combined.

And it will be able to invent and evolve a lot faster than we are doing now, so it will be able to solve a lot more than we can do now.

If we ever code a proper AI, that can actually learn, we probably won't have time to say oops before we are wiped off the face of the planet. At least that's what science fiction taught me.

Everything said by me is my humble opinion and nothing more, unless otherwise stated.

I don't think you're far off the mark mate, I still strongly believe that our pursuit for AI is stupid and give it time it'll WILL wipe us out.
