NVIDIA Announces the GeForce GTX 780 in China

It doesn’t comes as a surprise for NVIDIA announcing or showcasing a GPU early before launch. The company showcased their GeForce GTX 680 at GDC 2013 and ran a demo of EPIC’s Elemental demo through it. Later on, NVIDIA announced their dual chip GeForce GTX 690 at the NGF 2012 festival in China prior to official launch and availability. The GeForce GTX 780 would be announced in China but the official availability date is scheduled for 23rd May 2013 followed by GeForce GTX 770 a week late on 31st May 2013.

The GTX 780 would be the flagship product of the 700 series and would be based on a cut down version of the GK110 core codenamed “GK110-300-A2″. This core would have 2304 cores and a 3 GB GDDR5 memory which would operate along a 320/384-bit memory interface. The core is maintained at 863 MHz with Turbo boost of 902 MHz while the memory operates at the reference 1502 MHz or 6 GHz effective clock speed.

The GPU would make use of the cooler from GeForce Titan which would allow for better thermal specs providing users more overclocking headroom. The pricing is suggested around the  500-600, some are pointing out to a $799 mark for GeForce GTX 780 while overclocked models which would also be available at launch are going to cost slightly more. You can check out the be benchmarks for GeForce GTX 780 GPU here. Latest reports point out that the custom models won’t be available at launch but rather be released a bit late for an extra cost.

this was the mini-titan we expected guys, we knew it was coming.

I see them running us 600 too. wouldn't pay for that performance, an overclocked 7970 ghz edition may still beat it.

Yeah that 3GB is a turn off, would much rather see at least 4GB.

Really want to know pricing, but I bet it's going to be $600+(in the U.S.).

Glad the price is so high. I was a little worried I would regret picking up my 4gb Zotac GTX 680 for $425 last month. At these insane prices for the 780, titan, and the 770, looks like this 680 will be lasting me a long time.

The pricing is what is suggested, it's not official.

You might regret it soon.

wait till the amd 9000 series then choose, not worth it buying it now, here's why imo

gta v didnt launch nor bf4 nor watch dogs

those who have a 600 series should imo wait till next year

imho nvidia is going to loose this year and next year because IF amd released their 9000 volcano gpu which have some cpu implementation in it then nvidia's maxwell is somewhat useless to us gamers because as i just read maxwell is gonna have like amd volcano some cpu implementation

unless they change more stuff in maxwell but we will see

nvidia lost this year....im an nvidia fan so yeah

9970 here i come

To add to this....those looking for a GTX 670 or 680 should still consider those units.  You really need to look at value and view it from that point.  Not to mention these cards get the job done and then some on all current titles as well as upcoming titles.  So, even for those who actually do NEED a new card, don't throw away your money just by going with the absolute latest.  Not logical, rational or smart at all.

With that said, while volcano looks tempting as well, will I actually need it?  My R7970 is doing an outstanding job and will continue to do so for the next two years.  I'll probably go Volcano 9970 right before they stop making them and announce the next series.
