Well In SLI you must have the same card and brand. ( you can only SLI the same cards from the same brand ) unlike AMD's Crossfire where you can crossfire the same cards with different manufacturers ( as long as the have the same chip)

you can crossfire whatever the hell you want, as long as its the same gpu architecture (hawaii xt, or tahiti xt)

I'm pretty sure you're wrong with the vram, if you sli two cards with different vram, it will use only the amount of the card with less vram.
