Late 2012 Macbook Pro 15''

So I have the opportunity to get a late 2012 15'' MacBook Pro for $500.00. I've never really been a fan of Apple in a way because I couldn't afford it when I was younger, but owned a 13'' early 2012 model and kinda enjoyed it. What are your guys opinion should I get it or not? Currently have G75vw for a laptop and its heavy lol.

There isn't any damage to it, almost in perfect condition excluding a scratch on the bottom.

That was in a way my idea, they have great build quality and I have a 1tb 840 from when they were on sale I could throw in there.

Not anymore. did not know that it was not the retina model.

It's the early model so non retina and has an 15, would you say its still worth it?

Nope. I thought it was retina. Don't buy it. Get something else. Surface Pro (the original) can be found for quite cheap. Get that instead.

My first mac I kinda liked I jsut had to sell it under certain circumstances. Doesn't have the retina which is kinda a let down but I'm not really willing to shed out a grand for a laptop.

I think even a 2012 model will do a fantastic job, my brothers macbook is from 2008 and he works for Jaguar designing cars and stuff,

That sounds like an awesome job. I think the only change I want to do Is put an SSD in their which will improve the preformance greatly.

Definitely need an SSD in there 100%

They seem to be less resource intensive, I meet kevin Mitnick last summer at defcon and he had a 2011 15'' model.

I still use a 2011 inch macbook pro as my workhorse (numerical modeling, photoshop, illustrator).  The onlything you have to worry about is battery life... I used to get a nice 6 hours on a single charge now I'm down to ~4 hours.

I have a 2019 macbook pro with 64gb of ram and my gaming pc has been in the closet since 2018

That sounds like a fine deal. I owned a 2009 and 2011 15inch Macbook Pro and enjoyed them both. I boot camped(added windows boot capabilities) to both but found i liked OSX way better. I wouldnt waste money buying Windows 7 or 8 when Mavericks is free. Battery life is defiantly a concern thats why i use a Macbook Air for my laptop.
